First Impression Out Of The Box:

Straight out of the box, all I can say is ‘Wow’! This is one drop dead gorgeous mod! As soon as I opened the box, I knew that this mod is the most gorgeous mod I own. I own well over a hundred mods and this one is without a doubt the most beautiful one I’ve ever put in my hand. The Stabwood on it is absolutely phenomenal. I can’t wait to put some batteries in this thing and see how it performs. So far, I am just extremely impressed with the looks of this mod.

One thing that really impressed me about the presentation of this mod is it comes in a beautiful leather-carrying case. The leather carrying case has some gorgeous red stitching to it. The leather itself is done in a beautiful dark brown color with brass magnetic snaps. There is an Asmodus emblem engraved into the leather on the back of the case. It also comes with a really nice polishing cloth. Presentation on this device is simply awesome. Great job, Asmodus! Way to step up your presentation game for an ultra-premium mod.

What’s In The Box:

  • Leather Carrying Case

Asmodus Boost Kodama Stabwood Mod Review

From Top To Bottom:

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Asmodus probably has some of the best 510 pins in the business. They just always seem to get that part of the mod extremely right. That holds true for this mod as well. The one thing that they did do a little differently is that there is no circular 510 plate on this edition of the Boost. Instead, you have the whole top plate with a threaded area and underneath that threaded area, you have the actual 510 pin. The threading that goes through the top plate is extremely smooth and so far, all of my atomizers have sat flush on this mod. The pin itself is gold plated and it has a very lively spring to it. Overall, just an excellent job by Asmodus on the 510.

Asmodus Boost Kodama Stabwood Mod Review

The top plate of the mod runs along almost the whole top side of the mod. It has a brushed, silver look, to it and it is held in place by 3 hex screws. It definitely breaks up the mod a bit and gives it a very classy look. The top plate is on the thick side and it does look like it is matched up perfectly, even along the sides and curves of the mod. There is no gap at all between the plate and the wood. The plate sits flush against the whole body of the mod.

The whole body of the mod is done in a beautiful, glossy, Stabwood finish. Mine is purple and it has shades of tan, black, grey, red, lavender, and blue in it. It is just an absolutely gorgeous looking piece and like I said before, it is definitely the best-looking mod that I own. The texture and shape of the mod is very smooth and it has some beautiful curves to it that make it very comfortable to hold.

On the front plate of the mod, we have the same silver brushed type of finish as the top plate of the mod. Asmodus did the firing button a little different on this mod than they have done on other mods that I have from them. Normally, on an Asmodus mod, you get a concave or a convex shaped firing button. On the Minikin Boost Kodama edition, the button is the same size as all of those other mods but it is flat. On the front of the fire button, there is an Asmodus symbol that is painted on. The button is made out of metal, it is clicky and tactile feeling as well.

Right below the fire button, we do have the screen of the Minikin Boost Kodama. It is a tiny .72 inch OLED screen that we have all seen before on the other Boost editions of this mod. The screen is bright and well laid out. It has all the pertinent information that a vaper needs to know. You will be able to see your temperature, wattage, volts, resistance, and battery life on the screen. It does have a white sort of bluish color to the font. While it is very bright, it will get dim in outdoor lighting conditions. Not dim enough to the point that you can’t read it, but enough to the point that I had to mention it. The screen is housed inside the metal plating and there is a beveling around the screen housing.

Located below the screen, we have the plus and minus buttons. They are not labeled, but the plus button is on the right and the minus button is on the left. I definitely would have liked to have seen some type of markings on the plus and minus button. That is one of my pet peeves when it comes to mods and especially when it comes to premium mods. I think manufacturers need to start labeling their buttons. The buttons are made out of metal and circular in shape. They do have a good clicky feel to them and they are very responsive. All of the buttons on this mod are solid and they have no rattle to them.

Asmodus Boost Kodama Stabwood Mod Review

Below the plus and minus buttons, there is a charge update port. This mod is firmware upgradeable but it only charges at 1 amp. That is definitely going to be a con. I think Asmodus, at this price point, definitely needs to have 2 amp charging. I have taken Asmodus to task on this in the past as far as not having 2 amp charging. I think it’s something that they need to get on board with and start including on all of their mods. While I always recommend my readers charge multiple cell mods externally, it is a worthwhile feature to have 2 amp charging for those times when you just need a quick charge.

On the bottom side of the mod, we do have the battery door plate. The bottom plate of the mod that the battery door slides into looks very similar to the top plate of the mod. It is held in place by 4 hex screws. The piece that is actually your bottom battery contacts and holds the batteries in place does slide out all the way. Once you slide it out all the way, you are left with a tab that is done in the same brushed silver as the top plate. When you are holding the bottom battery contact in your hand, it almost looks like some sort of weird key. On the back of the sliding door, there are gold plated, button-style, battery contacts. There are also three little tabs that coincide with cutouts on the battery plate of the mod. These help the door itself snap into place and stay secure. The battery door is tight when installed and there is no battery rattle at all.

Asmodus Boost Kodama Stabwood Mod Review

Let’s talk about the actual battery door a little bit because I think it is unique and I really haven’t seen anything like it before. As I said before, it’s a tab that totally comes off of the mod. When you lay it down on a table, it almost looks like an 8 but with the top part of the 8 being a little skinnier than the bottom part of it. When you put it on the mod, you have to lay it on the plate, so it is already halfway into the battery plate. Then you simply push down and slide it in, in order to get it to make contact. It can be a little tight sometimes but it seems to be very effective. The reason the top part of the 8 is a little smaller is that when you attach the battery tab to the battery plate it leaves some space to provide the user with some battery venting. It actually is a really nice design that works very well. Just make sure you never lose it. I’m not sure how easy it would be to replace it.

Both battery tubes that house your batteries are made out of Stabwood. One of my battery tubes is done just right and one of them is a little bit on the tight side. When I go to take the battery out that is on the tight side of the mod, sometimes I have to bang the mod on the palm of my hand in order to get the battery to come out. So far, it has not torn any of my wraps but it has been a little bit of a pain. I will say this, after quite a few dozen battery swaps, it seems to have gotten a little looser and it’s not nearly as bad or as tight as it was when I first got the mod. In fact, some batteries do tend to fit in there a little better than others depending on the thickness of the wrap. Like all the mods in the Minikin line, this mod has excellent battery life.

Asmodus Boost Kodama Stabwood Mod Review

At the end of the battery tubes, on the inside of the mod, there are two silver plated spring loaded battery contacts. There are no battery orientation markings inside the tubes but there are battery orientation markings on the outside of the battery plate. Overall, I’d have to say that the battery door that they used on the Minikin Boost Kodama Edition is definitely on the innovative side and it does work rather well. I just wish my one tube was a tad looser.

The Look, Feel, and General Aesthetics Of The Mod:

You have heard me say it a few times during this review. This mod is just absolutely gorgeous. I love the look of it and I love the color scheme. It has all these vibrant beautiful colors that mix and match extremely well with each other. I am so glad that I got sent to purple edition because I think it just pops. I love the way that they matched up the battery plate as well as the top and front plate with the mod. That brushed silver look just gives it a classy elegance. This is just one beautiful mod, there is no way around that.

Because this mod is made primarily out of Stabwood, it is definitely on the light side. The plates Asmodus decided to use on the top, front, and bottom of the mod definitely add some significant weight to the mod. So it does not feel as light as most Stabwood mods would. For me, that’s a good thing because like most people, I associate a certain amount of heft to quality. Make no mistake about it, when you hold the Asmodus Minikin Boost Kodama Stabwood mod in your hand, this thing just screams quality. In my opinion, it’s one of the best looking mods money can buy.

Asmodus Boost Kodama Stabwood Mod Review

Not only does this mod look great but it just feels fantastic in your hand. It has a very balanced feel to it when you are holding it. I also love the smooth, marble-like texture that the mod has. It just has an extremely silky, smooth, glossy, almost glass-like finish to it that just makes it a joy to use.

The Board:

The Minikin Kodama Boost uses Asmodus’ proprietary chipset. The chip used in this mod is the HX155H-U chip. It has a maximum wattage output of 155 Watts. It has a temperature control range of 272 degrees to 572 degrees Fahrenheit. There is also a full temperature control suite that includes Ni, Ti, and SS. There is also a custom TFR and TCR setting for those of you that like to run your custom wires. The mod will fire as low as .1 ohms and as high as 2.5 ohms. It also has a wattage curve setting available that Asmodus has made pretty popular and I know a lot of their users really appreciate that function on this mod.

The Menu System:

The menu system on this mod is the same exact menu system that is used on the regular Minikin Boost mod.

  • Click the fire button 5 times to turn the mod on.
  • Once the mod is on, click the button 5 times to enter the main menu system.
  • Once in the main menu system, you will have a choice of system on, mode select, brightness, exchange, and exit. Use the plus or minus buttons to make your selections. Use the fire button to scroll through your selections.
  • In TC mode, press the plus and minus button together to toggle between the temperature and wattage. When one of them blinks, that is the one that is adjustable.
  • In TCR mode, press the plus and minus button in order to scroll through the 5 customizable presets.
  • Press the minus button and the fire button at the same time in order to get the mod to read your resistance.
  • Press the plus button and the fire button at the same time to lock and unlock your mod. Once the mod is locked, you will not be able to fire it.

How Does It Vape:

There really aren’t too many surprises here. This Minikin vapes exactly like an Asmodus mod should, and that’s a good thing. It is extremely accurate in power mode and the one little surprising thing is that I think they actually tweaked the TC on this mod some more. I have the regular Minikin Boost mod, and while I thought the TC on that mod was pretty good, the TC on this edition is even better. I get an absolutely fantastic TC vape when I put this mod in TC mode. It may be 10 degrees or so on the hot side but that’s okay. In order to compensate for that, I just knocked my temperature down by 10 or 15 degrees. As far as the accuracy and vape quality, this thing is definitely on point in both modes even if it is a tiny bit on the hot side.

One thing I really want to give Asmodus credit for is the fact that they do not overrate their mods. They have this mod rated at 155 watts and I think it does every one of them. I love the fact that they don’t try to pass off a dual 18650 mod as capable of doing 230 watts. I think more manufacturers should follow this lead. Just be honest with us. When I buy a mod, I want to know exactly what it is capable of. We all know the most dual battery mods are just not capable of doing more than 170 watts, at best. Why these other companies continue to print these exorbitant numbers on the boxes of their mods is just astonishing. I don’t know who they think they’re fooling? Kudos to Asmodus for being honest with their customers and rating their mods accurately.

I have run a lot of tanks with a lot of different builds on this mod in the time that I have had it. I have to say that it does hit extremely fast. I have never had a problem with any sort of ramp-up time when it comes to running big, monster-sized coils on this mod. It seems to ramp up just a little faster than most mods on the market today. Heck, even if it doesn’t, I can go into the wattage curve and create my own curve in order to get this thing to ramp up the way I want it too. That’s a big plus on this mod especially if you’re running those huge builds in some of your tanks or RDA’s. I’ve never really been that much into the whole wattage curve thing but I see how it can be very useful for the vapers that do run those types of builds on a regular basis.

What Would Make It better:

  • Battery Compartment Is Tight

I will preface this section by telling you I am being very petty by bringing this up. The battery compartment is a little bit on the tight side but not to the point where it is tearing my wraps. I would have liked to have seen it just a hair looser in order to be able to get my batteries out a little easier. It’s no big deal, but on a mod at this price point, I have to be very petty because it is not a cheap mod. Therefore, the attention to detail and quality must be held to a higher standard. It does not affect the vape quality of the mod but it has to be mentioned.

Conclusion:

I have to say, I have reviewed quite a few of mods in the Asmodus line up. So far, I have yet to be disappointed. I actually own the regular Minikin Boost edition of this mod and while it has always been one of my favorites, this Kodama Stabwood edition has definitely replaced my regular Minikin Boost as one of my absolute favorite mods on the market today. It is just extremely well built and stunningly gorgeous. If money is not an object to you, then you should definitely go out and pick yourself up one of these mods. It is just an all-around fantastic mod.

This mod has what I call the DJ Factor. What is the DJ Factor? That’s when you walk into a vape shop that you know and you lay your mod down on the counter and everybody goes “Whoooh man, what is that, that thing is just gorgeous”. You can take this mod to any place where there are a lot of vapers and this thing will just stop traffic. People will stop you and ask you what mod you are holding in your hand. That’s the DJ factor and this mod has it.

For me, this is the type of mod that makes an impression when you take it out with you. I cannot tell you how many times I have had this mod out with me and people have complimented me on how beautiful it is. It is just eye-catching. When people see you with this mod in your hand, they will absolutely comment to you about how beautiful the mod actually is. It has happened so many times to me that I have actually lost count.

This is also a really nice mod to take out with you to an event or social function that calls for you to dress up. I mean, you put this mod on the table of a nice restaurant or if you’re at a wedding, people are going to know that you’re not some kid that just chucks clouds with some garage juice in your tank. This is a classy looking mod that can be used in situations that call for it. Pair this mod with a good looking tank or RDA and you have one beautiful setup that can be used in almost any social type of situation.

So, just to put things into perspective. This mod looks great, vapes great, feels great, and it just has an elegance to it that you rarely see in most mods on the market today. If you’re the type of vaper that needs a mod like this in your life, you should definitely check out the Asmodus Minikin Boost Kodama Edition. It is DeucesJack approved and it has my utmost, highest recommendation.
