First Impression Out Of The Box:

Typical Asmodus packaging. It comes in a blue and black box with a window on it so you can see the atomizer. Mine is gold and I think the finish is absolutely gorgeous. It is a two-tiered box with a spare glass as well as a bunch of accessories. On the bottom tier of the box, there is an instruction manual. As with all Asmodus products, the instruction manual is very well done and it even has some illustration to it.

This is a really nice looking RTA. You can just feel the quality of it when you first put it in your hand. It is definitely on the short stubby side but I think it will look good on most mods. I’m going to break this thing down, build it, and wick it. After I spend some quality time with it, I’ll give you all my thoughts on the Asmodus Voluna.

What’s In The box:

  • Asmodus Voluna RTA
  • Spare Parts Pack
  • Spare Glass Section
  • Two Prebuilt Fused Clapton Coils
  • Allen Key

From Top To Bottom:

This RTA breaks down into five pieces. What we have here is the base, the glass, the barrel, the fill port cap, and the drip tip. The drip tip is basically a combination top cap drip tip. It is made out of old Delrin and it is quite comfortable. I absolutely despise the fact that it is a combination piece and that it is proprietary. As I’ve said many times before, if you are going to make this type of piece for your RDA, the least you can do is provide two in the packaging. If you lose or ruin this combination top cap drip tip in any way, it basically renders the rest of the tank useless. That is not a far-fetched scenario considering the fact that this piece is threaded with plastic. There is no metal insert for the threading. Another bad move on Asmodus’ part. I don’t know when companies are going to start to learn that vapers just do not want these types of drip tips. As a reviewer, I will keep pointing it out until they change their behavior. All of that aside, the drip tip is quite comfortable and with a few little tweaks, I could have given it a pass even though it is proprietary and a combination top cap drip tip. One of those tweaks would have definitely been to include metal threading on the interior. Had they done that, I wouldn’t have made such an issue of it.

The combination drip tip top cap screws into the fill port cap. The fill port cap has two decently-sized kidney bean shaped fill ports. I would have preferred them to be bigger but they will accommodate most bottles on the market today without making too much of a mess. The one bottle that you have to be careful with would be a bullnose type bottles. It will work but you have to be patient because there is not a lot of room between the barrel and the glass, so thick juice will take some time to make its way down to the bottom of the tank. The machining on this piece is absolutely gorgeous as is the machining on the whole RTA. The big problem with this piece is that the part that screws into the drip tip is basically threading metal into plastic. Eventually, that plastic piece is going to wear out and you are going to have a useless tank.

The barrel on this RTA has an extremely conical shape with a step up interior. Basically, while keeping its conical shape, the barrel steps up and keeps condensing the flavor in different stages by getting narrower as it goes up. I have no doubt in my mind that this barrel is a big part of the superior flavor that this RTA produces. Again, the barrel itself has really smooth threading and the machining is beautiful. There is an Asmodus symbol on both sides of the barrel but it is very light and elegant. The barrel screws onto the deck and there are quite a lot of threads that you have to go through to get it tightened down. One con with this barrel is sometimes, if you don’t have it tightened down really good and you go to pull your deck out the barrel comes off with it, what that does is it dumps whatever juice you have that is above the barrel right through the drip tip. I would have liked to see some way to lock the barrel down or just tighten it up a little more.

The glass section is held in place with the tension created between the top part of the barrel and the bottom part of the base. There is a nice beefy o’ring on the top part of the glass and a thinner black ring on the base that the glass fits into. The capacity on this tank is an anemic 2.5 mls. Asmodus should have included a chimney extension and a larger glass. As I said before, there is not a lot of space between the glass and the barrel so thick juices may take some time to fill up with this tank. Overall, besides the few little issues that I mentioned the build quality on this tank is absolutely as exquisite. Definitely an RTA worthy of the Asmodus name when it comes to build quality.

The base on this RTA has bottom airflow. The AFC adjustment is very slim on this tank and it is extremely tough to adjust while on a mod. If you are going to adjust the airflow on this RTA, my recommendation is that you take it off the mod and do so. It does have smooth action to it but it is definitely on the tight side. It also has stoppers on both ends of the AFC. The whole base like the rest of the RTA is gold plated. Turn the base over and on the bottom, you will see some Asmodus branding. There is also a gold plated 510 and the threading on the 510 connection is gold plated as well. I have had no issues with this RTA as far as it sitting flush on any of my mods. It has sat flush on every mod that I have used it on.

The Deck:

The deck on the Asmodus Voluna is a two-post, one-terminal-per-post design. It basically looks like a velocity style deck with the top terminals cut off of it. The terminal grub screws are on the top side of the post. They are Allen key grub screws and they seem to be of high quality. Asmodus also provides an Allen key for this deck. This is a bottom airflow deck so once you mount the coils, you have to make sure you place them properly above the airflow. The wicking channels on the deck are very nice. These are big wicking channels that are very easy to use. The whole deck itself is gold plated and it is beautifully machined.

Building And Wicking:

This is not the easiest deck in the world to build on because it is a dual post one-terminal-per-post deck. What that means is when you run dual coils on a deck like this, you’re coil leads have to share a terminal. This can be kind of tricky especially for the new builder. While there is definitely enough room to shove your coil aside and cut your leads once your coils are mounted, I find it easier to pre-cut my leads. I simply put one coil in at a time, make my cuts, and then I install both coils. The terminals are definitely big enough to accommodate dual Clapton’s. They are also big enough to accommodate most flat wire builds.

Once you have your coils mounted and in place, you have to make sure that you adjust the coil so it sits right above the bottom airflow. That is how you will get the best flavor from this RTA. After that is all done, make sure you dry burn your coils and get out any hot spots. Now, it’s time to wick your coil. Simply run your cotton through the coil and cut it so it is right above the black o’ring on the base. This will give you a perfect length as far as cotton goes. Then, all you have to do is tuck the ends of your wicks into the slots and you are ready to put everything together to vape. One thing I have noticed about the wicking on this RTA, it seems that I have to change it more often than I do on most RTA’s. The cotton seems to degenerate a little faster and I think it’s because of the way the barrel was done. I think the barrel does such a great job of keeping heat that the cotton on this RTA breaks down just a little faster. I find myself changing the cotton a lot more often on the Voluna than I do on most of my other RTA’s.

How Does It Vape?

There is no doubt about it, this thing has got some flavor. This is one of my favorite RTA’s when it comes to flavor and it is been in my rotation for quite some time. I have tried many different juices in here and they all taste phenomenal and sometimes even better in this RTA. I have tried several different builds in here and so far the Asmodus Voluna has taken everything that I have thrown at it. It is just an extremely flavorful tank with excellent cloud production.

Right now, I have simple dual stainless steel Clapton’s in the air ohming out at .28 ohms at 75 watts in TC mode at 500 degrees. I just get a wonderful vape off of this tank. It is very saturated, flavorful, dense, thick, lush, and cloudy. For me, this is exactly the way I love to vape. I am vaping a raspberry juice in this tank that I know very well and to be honest, it just never tasted better. This is a phenomenal flavor tank that can chuck the clouds with the best of them. This tank is a juice sucker though. You will absolutely be filling this tank all the time. It can rip through the juice very quickly. For that reason, I do wish it had a much larger capacity.

What Would Have Made It Better:

  • Goon style drip tip
  • Larger Capacity

Asmodus should have known better than to go with a proprietary drip tip like the one they used on this tank. Definitely a little disappointed that a company like Asmodus did not see that. Also very disappointed that they did not provide metal threading on the proprietary drip tip that they decided to use. Had they addressed those two issues, this tank would have been a lot better. At the very least, there should have been a chimney extension with a larger glass. The 2.5 ml capacity is just ridiculous. I also think this tank should have been built as a 30mm tank. It is a juice sucker and it would have definitely benefited from a larger capacity. Asmodus, if you are listening, make the Voluna in 30 mm form with a Goon drip tip and you will have a best-selling tank on your hands.

Conclusion:

If you are a flavor chaser and you are into quality machined RTA’s, then you are definitely going to want to give the Voluna a very serious look. It is machined beautifully and the vape quality on it is just fantastic. Like every product on the market today, it does have a few little issues but they do pale in comparison to the quality of vape you will receive from this tank. I’ve been using this tank for quite a few weeks now and I don’t see it coming out of my daily rotation anytime soon. It really is that good of a tank. The Asmodus Voluna is DeucesJack approved for sure. If you are a flavor chaser that likes big clouds and big flavor from a quality tank, you will not be disappointed.

I’ve been reading reviews about this rta. The only thing I see in the reviews that everyone is in everyone’s con is the tip and how they should of put stainless steel threads in it.
Well I purchased one and l like everything about this tank. And well Asmodus must of listened to everyone’s con as they put stainless steel threads in the cap.
