First Impression Out Of The Box:

I have to admit, when I first pulled this mod out of the box I was very impressed by it. What impressed me so much was the bright vibrant color that the mod is done in. They sent me the red version and it has an almost anodized look to it. It’s just really shiny and bright. Definitely one of the nicer red mods that I own. They did a beautiful job matching the tank to the mod as well. I can’t wait to charge it up and see how it actually performs.

This is a very complete kit. Not only do we get a mod and a tank but they also include a spare glass, spare coil, spare o’rings, and a spare drip tip. You also have all the usual paperwork and a USB cable. All you really need to do is add some juice and you are ready to vape.

What’s In The Box:

  • 1 * Eleaf Tessera Mod
  • 1 * Ello TS tank(with 1 pcs HW2 Dual-Cylinder 0.3Ohm Head)(4ml for standard version, 2 ml for TPD version)
  • 1 * HW1 Single-cylinder 0.2ohm head
  • 1 * QC USB Cable
  • 1 * Warning card
  • Spare parts

From Top To Bottom:

The Mod:

The Tessera is rectangular in shape with some nice, smooth, curvy, edges to it. Like I said before, I love the paint job that they put on this mod. It has an anodized type of look. On the backside of the mod there is a geometric raised sort of platform that is done in a bunch of triangles. It gives it a diamond sort of look and it also provides some texture. I really like the way the mod feels in my hand. They did the same thing on the front plate with the screen and everything on the mod has triangular design to it. This is a sealed mod with a 3400 mAh internal battery.

Eleaf Tessera Kit Review

On the top side of the mod we have a centered 510 connection. The 510 connection sits below a slightly raised platform. I normally do not like platforms on 510 connections but on this one I do not mind it all that much. The platform is very slight and if anything it helps the mod hold 25 mm atomizers with no overhang. When you design a platform with that in mind, I don’t have a problem with it. The threading on the 510 connection is very smooth and there is a spring loaded, gold plated, 510 pin. The pin has a very loose and long throw to it. I would have rather have seen a much stiffer 510 pin with a little bit of a shorter throw. So far though, I have had no problems with the mod reading any of my atomizers.

With the screen facing you, on the left side of the mod we have a firing bar. The firing bar is integrated into the mod almost seamlessly. In fact on the opposite side of the mod where there is no firing bar, you really can’t tell the difference between the two sides. The firing bar can be activated on almost any part of it, including close to the very bottom. It is a very clicky firing bar with a nice feel. The mod does fire very fast.

On the backside of the mod there is a bunch of triangular shapes that have some height and depth to them. There are depressions and peaks on the backside of the mod. They do provide some texture and it is a different look as well as a different feel. On the bottom side of the mod there are two screws that hold the bottom plate in place. Above the right side screw, there is a reset button that is recessed into the mod. You’ll probably need something like a paperclip in order to access it and actually reset the mod.

Eleaf Tessera Kit Review

The front side of the mod has that same triangular theme going on and Eleaf incorporated it around the screen as well. The Tessera has a beautiful 1.45 inch TFT color display. Eleaf did a really nice job with the screen and the way they laid it out. On the screen you’ll be able to see your mode, battery life, wattage, temperature, volts, resistance, time, and date. I really like the fact that Eleaf included a clock and date feature. It’s a great feature that I wish more manufacturers would include in their screens. The screen is very bright and colorful. You also have a choice of being able to change the color of the screen. It’s just very nicely done.

Below the screen, towards the right side of the mod is where you will find the up and down buttons as well as the function button. All buttons are done in a triangular shape and they do have a nice click and feel to them. The down button is on the left side, the function button is in the middle, and the up button is on the right side. Below this cluster of buttons is where you will find the USB charge and update port. This mod does charge at 2 amps and it is firmware upgradeable.

The Tank:

The tank included in this kit is the Ello TS. The Ello family of tanks has been covered before in many of my reviews and it’s a common tank that Eleaf likes to put in most of its higher wattage kits.

The Ello TS tank does have a Smok style DT. In fact Smok DT’s fit this tank nicely. While it is comfortable, everyone that reads my reviews knows that I prefer a Goon style DT’s with a 510 adapter. While this is not a Goon style drip tip, it’s definitely better than some of the other iterations I’ve seen on the Ello family of tanks. I am so glad that they dropped that female style drip tip. This is definitely an improvement and hopefully, we can get Eleaf to start using Goon style drip tips with 510 adapters.

Eleaf Tessera Kit Review

I really like the fact that Eleaf included two drip tips in this kit. The first DT is very tall and very much like a traditional Smok style drip tip that you would get with a Prince or TFV12 tank. The other one has a little bit of a contour to it and it kind of reminds me of the old school Merlin drip tip. It has a little bit of a curvature in the middle but it is also wide bore. Both are very comfortable and a big improvement over previous DT’s that I have received from Eleaf.

The top cap is a slider style top cap and Eleaf does a very good job with this particular top cap. There is a drop emblem on the top of the top cap, once you locate it simply slide the top cap forward and that’s how it will open. The fill port has a Tic-Tac like shape to it and it will accommodate most juice bottles. It measures 9mm by 4mm. Using the bullnose types of bottles can be a little bit on the messy side but they definitely will work. The one thing I don’t like about most slider caps is if you do have any juice remnants left on top, once you slide the top cap shut it tends to push the remaining juice out and makes it drip down the side of your tank. The Ello TS is no different in that regard.

Eleaf Tessera Kit Review

This kit comes in two versions. You can get the regular standard version or you can get the TPD compliant version which includes a 2 ml Ello TS tank. I am so glad that Eleaf decided to separate these versions. In the past I was getting kits with a 2ml tank and it was the most frustrating thing in the world. I have no idea why the rest of the world has to suffer because of the EU stupidity. I hope more manufacturers start separating their kits out and sending the standard ones to the states. It’s just a real pleasure to have a kit with a 4 ml capacity and a legitimate 4 ml spare glass. Good for you Eleaf!

The chimney on this tank is pretty short and wide. This feature definitely enhances the flavor. The glass is held in place by the tension created between the fill top cap and the base. On the base there are 2 airflow slots on each side of the tank. The action on the AFC is very smooth and there are stoppers on both ends of the AFC. There is some light knurling on the bottom of the base. It does assist you when you are unscrewing the base but it would have been just as well if it was smooth because the actual base has a good width to it with a lot of space to get a good grip. One thing I will say about the o’rings on the top and bottom of the glass section is that they are very thick and beefy.

Eleaf Tessera Kit Review

Threading on the interior of the base is nice and smooth. I have done quite a few coil replacements on this tank as I have had this mod for well over a month. So far all my coils go in nice and smoothly. The threading on the top of the coil that attaches to the chimney is also very smooth. On the bottom of the base we do have some Ello TS branding as well as a gold plated 510 connection. The threading around the 510 connection is very smooth. This is a 25 mm tank.

One thing that did bother me a little bit is that this tank actually has an extremely slight gap on this mod. You can really only see it if you hold the mod up in front of a light but it is definitely there. The funny thing is, other atomizers that I have thrown on this mod do not gap.

The Coils:

  • (1) Eleaf ELLO Mini HW1 Single Cylinder SS316L 0.2ohm Atomizer Head for Variable Wattage or SS316L TC Mode (Recommended: 50 – 65W)
  • (1) Eleaf ELLO Mini HW2 Dual Cylinder Kanthal 0.3ohm Atomizer Head for Variable Wattage (Recommended: 45 – 60W)

Eleaf Tessera Kit Review

The first coil I tried was the HW1 and to be honest I still think they overrated it. Every Time I went above 50 watts I got a slightly burnt taste. At 40 watts the flavor was perfect. My advice would be to ignore the ratings printed on the coils and just vape it where it tastes good. I honestly don’t think I got a bad coil because I have vaped this coil in the past with the same results. I do like the fact that they included a TC coil because I am a TC vaper. To bad this mod is really not good at TC.

Eleaf Tessera Kit Review

Next I used the HW2 coil and I have to say that I did like the flavor and vapor production much better on this coil. This coil seems to be rated properly and I had no problem running it at 60 watts. Both coils have that funky cotton taste for the first 10 or 12 pulls. Once the coil is broken in the flavor is very good. If I had to pick the one that has the better flavor I would definitely pick the HW2 coil over the HW1. I just think it vapes better, it also has better flavor and cloud production. The other nice thing about this tank is if you don’t like either one of the coils included in the kit, this tank is compatible with the full line of Smok Baby Beast coils.

The Look, Feel, and General Aesthetics Of The Mod:

It really is nothing groundbreaking here about the size or shape of this mod. It does have a nice power to weight ratio but at the end of the day it’s just a squared off mod with rounded edges that feels very comfortable in your hand. What I did find impressive about this mod is the finish. I took this thing all the way to California with me to ECC. It’s been in my jacket pocket, my pants pocket, my carry on pocket, and it’s been in all of those pockets with other metallic substances, yet it doesn’t have a scratch on it. The finish has held up just beautifully.

Eleaf Tessera Kit Review

The reason I took it to ECC with me is because I wanted to bring a knockaround mod that I wouldn’t get upset at if I actually lost it or something happened to it. This mod actually fit the bill perfectly and it has a pretty good capacity as far as battery life and juice go. I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised at the way it held up especially when you consider the way I treated it on that trip. It just continues to vape and it vapes well in power mode. It also looks good doing it. At this price point, I don’t know what else you could ask for.

The Board:

The Tessera has an Eleaf proprietary chipset in it. It is capable of 150 watts. It has a full temperature control suite that includes SS, Ni, and Ti. It has a temperature control range of 200 to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. It can fire down as low as .05 ohms in TC mode and .1 ohms in power mode. It also has TCR functionality with 3 memory slots.

The Menu System:

  • Click the fire button 5 times to turn the mod on and off.
  • Click the fire button 3 times to enter the main menu system. Once in the main menu system you will see four circles that represent four different sub-menus. Use the up and down buttons to scroll through those sub-menus. Once you land on the sub menu you want, use the function button to select it.
  • Inside the submenus, you use the up and down button to make your adjustments and the function button to confirm your adjustments.
  • On the main screen, if you hold down the function button it allows you to scroll through the different materials.
  • If you hold down the plus and minus button it allows you to key lock the mod. The mod will still fire while the keys are locked.
  • In order to adjust your wattage in TC you need to go into the set submenu and adjust the wattage there.

These are all the basic functions of this kit. It is a pretty simple menu system that does not have a steep learning curve. You’ll be able to get the menu system down pretty quickly. There are other things you can do in the main menu system but I wanted to go over all of the important stuff. If you play around with the mod you’ll be able to find some of the other functions as well.

How Does It Vape?

The Tessera kit vapes very well in power mode. I have no doubt that it’s probably hitting the full 150 watts and it is very accurate in power mode. TC mode as with most Eleaf products, is another story. It is extremely inconsistent and sometimes I get a really good TC vape off of it and sometimes I actually get kicked out of TC. It’s just a very frustrating experience to run TC on any Eleaf board. I just don’t know when they are going to open up their eyes and finally fix it. If you are a power mode only vaper you’ll probably really enjoy this kit but if you’re the type of person that truly enjoys TC, I’d have to recommend you to stay away from the Tessera.

Eleaf, if you are reading this, I don’t even know why you guys even bother advertising that your mods do TC. If you’re not going to take the TC part of the board seriously why don’t you just get out of the game altogether? Why even bother? Just start making power mode mods only and be done with it already. I’m just getting sick of seeing the same movie because I know the ending. Enough already! Fix the TC or stop pretending, pick a side already.

What Would Make It better:

  • Better TC

I’m starting to sound like a broken record already. I mean, I’m even starting to get sick of hearing myself saying and writing this. Eleaf, fix the TC already, that’s all I got to say.

Conclusion:

I like the looks of the mod, I like the way it vapes in power mode, and I like the fact that they did a great job matching up the tank with the color of the mod. The finish on the mod is absolutely beautiful and extremely durable. It does vape well in power mode and the tank is a good tank. It also has a nice family of coils available to it and it is Baby Beast compatible.

If you’re a TC vaper, I have to warn you to stay away from this mod but if you’re a power mode vaper and you need a good knockround mod, this may be your ticket. It’s light, it’s easy to carry, and it’s no big deal if you actually lose it. It really is kind of a shame because on paper this mod has a lot going for it but the bad TC really ruins it for me. For all of the pros I listed you may want to check out the Tessera kit. I’ll leave that up to you.
