The box has 1 tier and when you open it, you will see a Captain S Sub Ohm tank with a pre-installed coil, a spare coil, and all the pertinent parts and accessories. At first glance, it does look to be a bit taller than the original Captain Sub Ohm tank.

From Top To Bottom:

As with the original Captain Sub Ohm tank, the S version comes with a lovely shaped drip tip. It is tall and wide and very comfortable to use. It is not really 810 or Goon style compatible because there is no ring on the inside of the top cap. The drip tip is an 810 drip tip but it’s one of those ones that uses an o-ring on the actual drip tip itself. Goon style drip tips with no ring will fit but they will be rather loose. You really need to use an 810 drip tip with an oring on it. So far, all of my Smok Beast series drip tips have fit rather well. While I do like the drip tip that they use, I would have preferred that Ijoy use a proper Goon style drip tip. I do like the drip tip and I find it extremely comfortable to use. It is definitely one of my favorite stock drip tips. I would put it right up there with the original Merlin drip tip that came with that tank.

The difference between the original Captain Sub Ohm tank and the S version is the S stands for slider. The top cap on the Captain S has a slider type top fill. Simply locate the marking on the top cap, push forward, and it will slide open to reveal one kidney bean shaped fill port. The fill port is definitely on the smaller side as far as fill ports go. I do wish it was a little bigger in order for it to accommodate larger juice bottles. So far, every juice bottle I use has worked but with some of the bigger gorilla type juice bottles, the drip tip has gotten in the way when I fill it. This is easily remedied by removing the drip tip but it can be a minor annoyance. The other minor difference is because of the slider top, the S version of the Captain is a bit taller.

Right between the base and the glass, there is some sort of cut out that gives the tank a curvy sort of look. That cut out is specifically there to reduce heat transfer on the tank. So far, I have to say that it works really well as the Captain S does not get hot at all even when I chain vape the hell out of it. Right below the cutout, you will find two airflow slots. They are free spinning and there are no stoppers present on them. There is some light knurling on the actual AFC. Below the slots is the rest of the base. The outer rim of the base does have some heavier knurling on it and I wish they would have used the same type of knurling on the AFC. On the bottom of the atomizer, we have some branding and a gold plated 510 pin. So far, the Captain S has sat flush on all of my mods. The 510 pin threading is very smooth and buttery.

The Ijoy Captain S Sub Ohm tank sits 59.4 mm high. It is 25 mm in diameter and it has a 4 ml capacity. It comes in some stunning colors as well. Colors available right now are gunmetal, black, rainbow, red, blue, yellow, and of course the good old standby stainless steel. Ijoy also has it listed on its website in green, purple, and white. Those colors, from what I’m seeing, will probably be a later release. All of the colors that they have released actually match beautifully with a Captain mod of a corresponding color.

The Coils:

The S version of the Captain Sub Ohm tank comes with two excellent coils. I will run through them in detail right now. The first coil I tried was the CA2 .3 ohm coil. Ijoy says it is made out of a combination of Kanthal and SS wire. It is rated from 60 to 80 watts and because of the mixture of metals, Ijoy claims that you get better clouds and flavor. For me, this coil is definitely more about the flavor than it is the clouds. It does have excellent cloud production but the flavor department is where this coil performs best. This coil also has a much tighter wattage range than the CA3 coil that is also included in this kit. While you don’t have the flexibility to run it as hot as you can on the other coil, it is still an excellent vape. I get exceptional flavor and the clouds are not bad at all. This coil is rated from 60 to 80 watts.

The second coil I tried was the .2 ohm CA3 coil. This coil has a much wider range than the CA2 coil. The wattage range for the CA3 is from 60 to 100 watts. My sweet spot for this coil is right around 85 watts in power mode. Vape it like that and you will get a fantastic vape. It also does do well in the lower wattages but for me, the sweet spot was between 85 and 95 watts depending on the juice you are running. I get an extremely flavorful vape and this coil has no problems keeping up with any type of juice. I have yet to get a dry hit and the vape quality is just phenomenal. Right now, I’m running it on my SX Mini Q Mini at 85 watts and I am getting a dense, wet, flavorful, cloudy vape. This is definitely my favorite coil out of the two.

If I was forced to compare these two coils to another popular coil out on the market, I guess I would say they are much akin to a Big Baby Beast type of coil. I do think they edged out the Big Baby Beast coils in flavor. The CA3 coil is more like the lower end of the Cloud Beast King coil. Whichever coil you choose, I don’t think you can go wrong with either coil. Both coils are the drop in style and they are not threaded. I will say this, I recently reviewed the Uwell Crown 3 tank and for some reason, the Captain S reminds me a lot of it. Not performance-wise because this tank blows the Uwell Crown 3 out of the water. In fact, I’ll go on record saying that the Captain S Sub Ohm tank is probably everything Uwell wanted the Crown 3 to be but never attained.

The only thing that disappoints me a little bit about the S tank is that Ijoy did not develop an RBA section for it. I’m really hoping that if this tank does take off, Ijoy invests the effort in developing an RBA section for it. With a tank that vapes this well, it’s just a crying shame not to have one. Ijoy, I hope you feel me and get to work on this.

How Does It Vape?

What’s not to like about the way the S Sub Ohm tank vapes? I reviewed the original Captain Sub Ohm tank and I loved it. This tank is basically the same exact thing as the original Captain Sub Ohm tank with a slider top cap. It vapes the same and it takes the same exact coils. It has a good capacity and the flavor and clouds are there. I love running my S tank on many of the mods that I own. It’s one of those tanks that’s basically for your mid-range lung hitters. For me, that is exactly the way I vape. I like to be in the 60 to 98 watt range. Rarely do I go over 100 watts in a normal vaping day. The Captain S tank has my type of airflow and my type of restriction. It will produce a very satisfying vape and you can vape on it all day.

Conclusion:

I think the tank has excellent flavor and the coils, so far, have lasted me pretty long. I have been averaging 7 to 10 days per coil. For me, just like its original version, the S tank is one of the best Sub Ohm tanks of the year. I really don’t know why it’s not becoming more popular in the vaping community because it truly is an excellent Sub Ohm tank. What makes me laugh is that I see everybody running around with their Crown 3’s and this tank will smoke that tank in performance and flavor. Not only that, but so far, I haven’t had to deal with any janky coils like I have with almost every Uwell tank I have ever owned. So far, every coil that was sent to me has been fine and I have had no issues with them whatsoever. So I’ll say it again, if you were one of those people looking at it Crown 3 and you were disappointed in my review of it, then go get yourself an Ijoy Captain S Sub Ohm Tank and you’ll be the one with the last laugh. DeucesJack approved? You bet!
