First Impression out of the Box

DeucesJack: What’s up, everyone? DeucesJack at VapingInsider.com. Got a new dual 18650 mod for you. Center-mounted 510, check it out. I got the Ovanty Vega.

Let’s cut down low. Let me show you the mod. Let me show you the menu system. We’ll go over everything. We’ll come back on top. We’re going to vape on it. We’ll talk about it, cons, pros and we’re out of here, as usual. See you down low.

What’s In The Box

  • 1pc Ovanty Vega Mod
  • 1pc USB Cable
  • 1pc User Manual

Alright, everyone! Welcome to the down low portion of this video. Today, we’re going to be doing the Ovanty Vega 200 watt mod.

Take a quick tour around the box. A little bit of stuff here, about what’s going on. Nothing on this side and some Ovanty stuff on that side. On the back of the box, it lets you know what’s in the box. You get one Vega mod, USB cable charging dock, user manual and warranty card. That’s right, I said charging dock. This thing comes with its own charging dock that I’m going to show you in a minute.

Ovanty Vega Review

Let me show you this mod. I got the wine red one and I gotta tell you, I’m definitely diggin’ it. Here’s the mod, comes wrapped in this plastic bag. We’ll take a more detailed look at it in a minute. Take the plastic insert out, you have a cardboard box in here. Here is your docking station, right there. See those pins there? They coincide with the pins on the bottom. Here, you’ll notice some Ovanty branding there and a micro USB port there. Nice job on that. I like that little added touch of a charging station. Kind of cool. Also, in the box, we have what seems to be a really nice USB cable. One of those braided ones, reminds me of the ones that you get with SX Mini mods and we also have a bunch of paperwork. We have a QC card over here, we have a warranty card over there and here is your user manual.

From Top To Bottom

Let me show you the mod. Let me show it to you up and closed. Love the anodized finish here on the buttons and everything. There’s your micro USB port. This kind of ribbing right here, this sawtooth kind of look, it’s really smooth but it also has some nice texture to it. You’re going to love the way this thing just feels in your hand. They did a nice job on that. On top here, we have a centered 510 connection with a raised plate. The 510 is spring-loaded and it is what I would call a very short stiff spring. Threading around here is very smooth. Only issue is when you run a 31 or 30-millimeter atomizer. They fit on the mod with no overhang. You can see they don’t overhang from the mod. All around, you can see right there, see? It does not overhang from the mod but that platform there is going to give you that little bit of a gap and that might bug some people. To be honest with you, putting that platform there kind of defeats the purpose of having a center-mounted 510. I wish they would have milled it in there.

Top plate is held in place by two-star screws. This is your battery door cover very open on the bottom, that go to the charging dock that I showed you already. Two-star screws holding the bottom plate in place. In order to get your battery door, you just get your fingernail under here and lift. You’ll notice on the back of the battery door, there is some battery safety instructions. Really like that two strong magnets over here and over here, they coincide with two metal pieces that it attaches to. You can hear it click. Nice click. Battery door has a little bit of movement to it but nothing crazy. You really gotta push it. It’s not going to move while you use it. A little bit of Ovanty branding over there.

Ovanty Vega Review

Let’s take a look. They got a nice long battery strap right here. Love the white battery tray. I wish they would have made the battery indicator markings in a different color. They are clear, you can see them. I don’t know if they’re showing up in white, on the camera. Let’s see if I can get them close. See? You can see them but I wish they were another color. On the top, we have spring-loaded, gold-plated battery contacts they’re also marked A and B over here. On the bottom, we have gold-plated button style contacts.

Let’s put some batteries in here and I’ll show you how they get loaded. This one is negative side up, right there. This one is positive side up, right there. Then you just fold that battery strap over and you put your door back on. I love that satisfying click that it has.

Menu System

Let me show you the menu system. Five clicks to turn it on. You see, boots up rather quickly. Ask you if you want to be an expert mode or novice mode. We’re in expert mode, right now. Nice screen, beautiful layout. You see, right here, you have your voltage. That’s the timeout screen. You have your voltage, your resistance, battery meter A and B. I’m in M1, right now. That’s the voltage of my batteries right now. 85W, I have 495 puffs on in the strong preheat setting. In order to change the wattage, you click the middle button three times now. You can see, I can scroll the wattage up or down, all the way up to 200W. It does not round-robin. Let’s put it back down to 80W where we were.

Ovanty Vega Review

Now if I hit the button again, I can scroll through my preheats. Soft, strong plus, strong and normal. I normally keep it on normal and you just hit the fire button to get it back into normal mode. Hold the middle button down and you get into your main menu system. This is where you can turn it off. This is where you can select your language. This is where you can set your time. This is where you can select your font. Here are your themes. I like the original theme. Here is where you control your LEDs. You can go breathing, always-on, which I wish wasn’t a choice, random or LEDs off. I normally like it on breathing. Now you can pick if you want it to breathe and yep in red yellow, green, blue, purple or white. I’ve been keeping it on green but you know what? Maybe we’ll change it up and do some purple. Here is your brightness adjustment. Here is your standby time and here is your menu style. You can have the icons which I’m using right now or you could go into the listings like that.

I like the menu. I like the icon on the menus better. I think it’s much easier. This is your factory reset. Here is your upgrade, here are your puffs and here is your TCR. You can go in there and set your TCR and right there, you exit. If you want to go through your different materials, all you do is hit the UP button. You’ll see, I’m in stainless steel 316. Now, I’m in bypass mode. Now I’m in normal wattage mode. Now you’ll notice that my screen says 507 degrees Fahrenheit, stainless steel 316, at 60W. If I want to change my temperature, I scroll in one degree in trip increments right there. I normally leave it at around 500 degrees in TC. Hit the button again and I can adjust it from Fahrenheit to Celsius. Hit the button again and I can adjust my wattage up or down. Hit the button again and now I can scroll through titanium, nickel 200, TCR or stainless steel 316, stainless steel 304 and back to titanium. Hit the fire button to confirm and that’s how you adjust everything in TC mode. Pretty simple menu system, very, very intuitive. This is your time out screen, showing you your time, your date and day of the week. I kind of like that but I wish we could adjust that.

Let’s cut back on top. Let’s vape on it. We’ll talk about it, cons, pros and then we’re out of here.

General Thoughts

Alright, everyone! Welcome back on top and you just saw the Ovanty Vega up close and personal. Yeah, man. Nice looking mod, definitely diggin it. Loving the ribbing part over here. It’s kind of weird because it’s got a smoothness to it yet it still has some texture and gives you some nice grip. Really, really like that. I think it’s unique. I think they did a bang-up job. I never heard of this company before. If this is their first mod, kudos to you guys! Man, you did a great job on this one. You really did. I haven’t updated it yet but I do have paperwork that says that the updates are extremely easy. You basically don’t have to download any software. You basically plug this thing into your computer and you drag and drop. So if they did that, that’s fantastic because I hate updating mods especially when it’s complicated. Great job on that, Ovanty. The other thing I have to say that’s a standout on this mod is that color screen. 1.33 inches, TFT color display. It’s vibrant, it’s beautiful. Can be seen in all kinds of lighting conditions. Great job on that.

Let’s get into the cons and the pros. There’s a couple little cons and there’s mainly more pros that’s for sure.

Cons

First con’s going to be looks. Looks wise, this isn’t going to be for everybody. Some people just aren’t going to like that ribbing on the side. That’s just the fact that I matter. So that’s subjective but I gotta put it out there.

Next con’s going to be the docking station. I’m glad they included it but it charges extremely slow. It doesn’t charge it two amps. I don’t know what it charges at but it’s very very slow so don’t put your mind on that docking station if you’re looking for a quick charge.

That raised plate, they should have sunk that into the mod so they’re going to get a con for the raised plate.

The other con is going to be that battery door. It’s got a little bit of movement. I would have liked to have seen that tightened up but that’s it on the cons. Nothing that really affects the vape quality of the actual mod.

Let’s get into the pros because like I said, there’s plenty of them.

Pros

First pro, the included charging dock. Yeah, it’s low but they included it. I like that. Innovative, putting those things on the bottom that the pins go to. Like it a lot.

Ovanty Vega Review

Two amp charging on the port, pro on that.

Centered 510, pro.

Nice build quality. You can feel the quality on this one, pro.

Subtle lights and you can turn them off. That’s a pro.

Menu button or function button, whatever you want to call it, that button in the middle, I like menu systems like that because I don’t have to do everything with the fire button. Pro on that.

Easy menu system, we’re going to give them a pro for that.

Screen layout, look at the screen layout, it’s beautiful. Its colorful. Great job on that.

Fires fast, this thing fires really fast. They’ll get a pro for that.

TC on this is very good. I vaped it next to my DNA and my Yihi boards and there’s not much of a difference. This thing does really good TC.

Ovanty Vega Review

Feels accurate in wattage mode. We’re going to give them a pro for that.

Holds 28mm with no overhang on the plate. You can get 30mm on here with no overhang on the mod. Good job on that.

Ovanty Vega Review

510 connection is leak proof. I didn’t go over it down low but they sent me some paperwork showing pictures and everything of how they made the 510 connection leak proof. I’m not going to take it apart but I’ll take their word for it. If they did something to make it leak proof. Great job on that.

Firmware upgradeable, pro.

Loved the looks of it. I think it’s a great looking mod and I love the ribbing. I’m going to give them a pro on that.
