It’s a nice little squonk mod that does perform very well at a great pricepoint. I love the looks of it and the bottle that they included is just fantastic. If you can put up with the cons that I listed, then you might want to take a look at this mod. One thing is for sure, it is a lot less expensive than some of those custom 3D printed mods that are going for hundreds of dollars. It probably performs just as well as far as vape quality goes. So, if you’re looking to get into squonking and you want an affordable mod to try it out, this may be the mod for you. Just keep in mind that not all your atomizers will sit flush on this mod and the button has an extremely short throw to it. Otherwise, as far as performance and looks go, it’s a great little squonker.
First Impression Out Of The Box
I really like the packaging on this little squonker. It comes in a wood box with an elastic piece that holds the box closed. Once you open the box up, your beautiful wood mod is sitting in some shredded paper along with a QR code card and a spare squonk bottle. An Allen key with some insulators and spare atomizer plate o’rings are also included.
There is no doubt about it, this is a really good looking box. It is made out of real wood and I do have the Beechwood version. With no battery in it, it is extremely light yet at the same time, it feels really solid. So far, I am really digging the look and feel of this mod. Fantastic finish.

From Top To Bottom
The wood on this mod is absolutely beautiful. It does have some markings that are carved into the wood that mostly have to do with branding. On the side of the mod, with the squonk hole in it, we have the battery door. On the exterior of the battery door, there is a 5Gvape logo carved into the door itself. The door is a slide-in type of door and there are channels on the interior of the mod that the door slides into. There are also two magnets on the interior bottom of the door that coincide with two magnets on the sled of the mod. So far, my door has been rock solid. It does not rattle or move at all. If anything, it has been quite a tight fit. The squonk hole that you put your finger through to hit the squonking bottle is milled out beautifully and it is very smooth.
On the side opposite of the battery door, we do have some type of car carving. Underneath the car, it says Supercar BF Box. Below that, there is a serial number and I have number 352. Not sure what the whole Supercar theme is about. Maybe it’s in reference to Pine Box Derbies or something like that. The reason I say that is because when I do look at this mod, it kind of reminds me of those Pine Box Derbies from when I was a kid. That’s the only thing I can think of as for why they went with this sort of theme. One thing is for sure, while I don’t mind the Supercar BF Box lettering, I could have definitely went without the carving of the car. I don’t mind the serial number but the car is a little annoying on the mod because it just doesn’t seem to make any sense to me.
On the top side of the mod, we do have the 510 connection. The plate has an inner circle going around it and four air slots to keep the bottom of your atomizer cool. The threading on the 510 connection is nice and smooth but so far, no atomizer I have used has actually sat flush on this mod. That’s because it has a non-adjustable 510 connection. Really bad move on 5Gvape’s part. I mean, really, what would it have cost to put a spring loaded 510 in this mod? A few cents more and it would have made the mod 10 times better. I just don’t understand the reasoning behind not using a spring loaded 510 pin.
They did include these insulator rings that in order to use, you basically have to take a 510 pin apart. You unscrew the 510 pin from the mod and you insert these insulator rings that they included, on the inside of the mod. Supposedly, they make your atomizers sit flush depending on the length of the 510 pin of the atomizer you are using. This is just way too much work for a simple little squonking mod. I mean really, who’s going to go through all this nonsense just so I can have my atomizer sit flush? Wouldn’t it have been much easier to just use a spring loaded 510 pin? I just don’t get it and I don’t understand why 5Gvape went this way as far as the 510 connection goes. Every time I want to use a different atomizer, I have to take this whole thing apart and switch out the insulator ring? Just an absolutely ridiculous design.
I do like the idea that they came up with as far as putting an o’ring around the 510 plate itself. In theory, if the bottom of your atomizer seals up against that o’ring, then it’s going to prevent juice from leaking out the bottom of the connection point should you not have a good connection between your atomizer and the 510 pin. It’s a great idea, the only thing wrong with it is it is poorly executed on this mod. If your atomizer doesn’t sit flush, what good is the o’ring? I’m not going to take this apart and change out the insulators every time I want to switch atomizers.
The button on the mod is stainless steel and very solidly machined. I have no rattle at all from the button but it does have an extremely short throw to it. It basically takes no pressure at all to fire this mod. Some people may really like that but on a mod like this, with a button that protrudes as far as it does, it definitely affects the pocketability of this mod. There is no type of safety switch built in and for a button that protrudes this much off the surface of the mod, I definitely would have preferred some type of safety switch. I do not recommend carrying this mod in your pocket or a bag with a battery installed. The button is just way too easy to press.
The internals of this mod are simple and clean. All the contacts for the batteries are gold plated and they seem to be of very nice quality. Like a lot of mechanical mods, 5Gvape used an L-shaped bar with a curve on the top of the L to complete the circuit when you press the button. The L-shaped bar does have some rubber sort of coating on it from the middle down to the end of the bar. I do like that the whole bar is not just raw metal and it definitely adds a nice, clean touch to it.
Another complaint is that there is no battery strap. This mod definitely could have benefited from a battery strap. Right now, if you want to take the battery out of this mod, you basically have to open up the battery door and slap the mod against your open hand. This will force the battery to come out without having to stick your fingers in there and dig it out. A battery strap would have been a very welcome addition. I also do not like the fact that there are no battery orientation markings. Yes I know, no matter which way you put the battery in, the mod will fire. Still, with a lot of people getting into squonking, especially newbies I would have rather seen some type of battery orientation for them. Since this is a mechanical mod, the proper way to install your battery would be with the positive side down.
The best thing that 5Gvape did with the internals of this mod is they made sure they included a high quality squonk bottle. This bottle is super soft and it is a joy to squonk with. It will hold 8 mls of juice. Not only did they include that in your purchase but they also included a spare. The bottle is super soft and you really have to make sure when you install it that you are grabbing it by the stainless steel cap. Any slight type of pressure while you are installing it and you will have juice all over the place. That’s one of the sacrifices you make when you work with one of these super soft squonking bottles but for me, it’s more than worth it because it easily increases the squonking enjoyment of this mod.
The Look, Feel, And General Aesthetics Of The Mod
I love the look of this mod. I especially love the material that they use. The wood is beautiful as well as nice and thick. As I said before, mine is made out of Beachwood and I think, it just looks phenomenal. I think they did a great job on the finish and the fit of this mod. In my opinion, it looks much better than those 3D printed mods that cost 4 to 6 times as much as this mod. To me, it is definitely one of the better looking mechanical squonkers on the market today. I could have done without some of the cheesy branding but besides that, it looks and feels really good.
How Does It Vape
For a single 18650 mechanical squonker, this thing actually hits really well. Of course, because it is a mechanical mod, this may not be for everyone and you really do have to know your Ohm’s Law. I have been using my Pulse 22 on it since I received this mod. The build that I have been using has been coming in right around .2 ohms. I get a really high quality vape from it and the mod does hit really well.
I am running the build that I referenced above in the Pulse 22 and I get an extremely satisfying vape from this setup. Right now, I have a Fruit Loops juice in it that I happen to know very well and it tastes fantastic in the Pulse 22 on top of this mod. The mod fires very quickly and it heats up the coil to produce a nice, flavorful cloud of vapor. Squonking on this mod is a pleasure because of the super soft silicone bottle. I have really been enjoying this mod with the Pulse 22 on top of it. Even with all its design flaws, it puts out a very nice, solid vape.
What Would Make It Better
- Spring loaded 510
- Safety switch
While this mod vapes well, there are two things that could have made it infinitely better. The first one we have gone over in great detail in this review. This mod is actually begging for a spring loaded 510. The one that they used is just absolutely ridiculous and I really hope I never see this type of 510 on another mod again. The performance on it is great, it hits really well and it makes a solid connection. Where the 510 falls flat on its face is the fact that most atomizers will not sit flush on it. In order to get them to sit flush, you literally have to do some 510 surgery on this mod. That’s just not practical and not what most vapers are looking for in today’s market.
Because of the button 5Gvape decided to use, it definitely would have been prudent of them to install some type of safety switch inside the mod. It also has an extremely short throw to it. When you make a button like that, you have to build in some sort of safety just in case somebody sticks this thing in their pocket or bag. Again, I would not recommend putting this mod in your pocket or bag unless you remove the battery. If 5Gvape would have addressed those two things, this mod would be a total win for them. The fit and finish is fantastic, the execution is just a little bit lacking in some areas.
