What’s up, Insiders? DeucesJack, I’m at Vapinginsider.com. Today, we’re going to be going over a great little starter kit. I’m talking about that Advken Owl. Some people are going to say, “Jack, it’s really not a starter kit because it doesn’t have any internal battery.” I don’t know, it doesn’t bother me that it doesn’t have an internal battery.
Before we get into the video, make sure you check out our new merch site. You can get my tagline on a shirt, or a hoodie.
Let’s go over the mod first. Really, nice, metallic type of paint job on this thing. I’m definitely digging it. Weird V-shaped fire button and your LEDs are the eyes of the owl. I’m not sure if you’re getting that. But that’s kind of cool. On the bottom, we got some venting on the bottom with some more Advken branding. On the top side, you can see, we have, I think this is, let me see. Feels like metal. Metal top plate, stainless steel threading, gold-plated 510 that I would say has a short throw with a medium spring to it. Micro USB port right over there. Nice job on that. And this is just a simple mod. There are no power settings, you just unscrew the cap right here. Smooth threading, decent threading, no issues with that. Marked negative inside the battery cap. Inside, you also get a 18650 battery adapter. You can see in there, threading is nice, nothing crazy. Feels like aluminum. It’s not heavy at all.
Take your Golisi battery, put it on the positive side facing the 510. The negative side facing the battery cap. Put your battery cap on. Give it a little bit of reversed thread so it catches. Screw it right on, just like so. No rattle, no nothing. It’s in there pretty tight. I do like that.
5 clicks, you see the eyes light up. Now it’s on. As I said, there are no settings on this. You’re just getting straight voltage from your battery. If your light is green, that means your battery voltage is between 3.5 and 4.2V. If it’s yellow, that means you’re between 3.3 and 3.5V. And if it’s red, that means you’re between 3.2 and 3.3V and it’s going to flash three times to show you that you\re low on battery. But there are no other indicators setting on this at all. There’s not a low, medium, or high, or anything like that. It is what it is. It’s just whatever your battery is producing, that’s what you’re going to get to the coil at any given moment.
Here’s the Advken Owl kit in the middle next to the Uwell Nunchaku and the Rincoe Mechman. Both of these have a swappable battery in them as well. However, the ones that I’m comparing it to actually have a screen with adjustable wattage. I really wish Advken would have gone that extra mile and put the screen on there. I think that would have been kind of cool. I’m just comparing these, really for the shape. You can see, this is a 21700 mod and yes it doesn’t have to make room for the screen, but you can see, it’s just as big as the Uwell Nunchaku that only takes 18650s, just to give you a reference. And here it is next to the Rincoe Mechman. Rincoe Mechman is significantly bigger. But then again, it does have a screen as well, just like the Nunchaku. That was just for some reference.
Let’s go over the tank. We have reviewed this tank before but since this is a kit, let’s give it a good once over again. There is the Owl tank. Notice how they did a nice job actually matching it to the mod. It’s black, and then green, and then black again, and it’s got a green drip tip. They did a really nice job matching it to the mod. You’ll see it better when I put them together. Here’s the tank, top airflow tank. This does take factory coils but it is a top airflow tank. The bottom is solid because there’s no bottom airflow. On the bottom of the tank, you can see, we have some Owl branding, some Advken branding, gold-plated 510, insulator ring around that, stainless steel threading around that. Really digging the drip tip. Like I said in my original review of the Owl when I first saw this drip tip, it doesn’t look comfortable but it’s actually really comfortable. You can see, we have adjustable airflow over here. The tension on it is really nice. Nice and solid. O stoppers though, it does swing all the way around but it is nice and tight. I do like that. It’s dual top airflow so whatever you adjust on one side will also happen on the other side.
In order to fill this bad boy, there’s your mark right there. It is your slider cap, you push it open just like so. You do have a nice sized fill port. You should have no problem displacing air. I would have recommended needle nose bottles only. Bullnose bottles will probably make a mess. But again, very happy with the tension on this. I don’t feel like this would slide open in your pocket. I still would like to see some type of lock on it. But the tension on it is really tight. They did a bang-up job on that. Probably one of the better sliders I have ever used.
In order to access your coils, like every other sub-ohm tank, you unscrew the base, just like so. Here comes your mesh coil. You can see, typical single mesh coil. No big shakes over here. This is the 0.2-ohm coil, good for 50-70W. Also included in the packaging is a spare parts bag with a bunch of gaskets in it. You also get a spare bubble glass which I really like. Nice job on that. And you get a spare coil, another single mesh coil but it is different. This is the 0.16-ohm coil, good for 60-80W. You can see, the same type of coil, single mesh coil. I don’t believe they make a double for the Owl. I wish they would because it’s probably one of the better top airflow sub-ohm tanks that take a factory coil. In fact, if I recall correctly, I’m not a top airflow guy but I think I like this tank the best out of the top airflow tanks that take a factory coil. It’s just a really good tank. You get decent flavor considering its top airflow.
Here it is all put together. I’m kind of digging that black and green color scheme. I think it looks kind of badass. I really, really like the looks of this stick mod. This might be the best looking stick kit on the market right now. I just think it looks fantastic.

That’s it, Insiders! Let’s get into them cons and pros.
First, con’s going to be, even though I do like the drip tip, I do like it. It’s a different shape, it is comfortable. It’s kind of a pain in the neck to remove. I gotta chalk up a con.
I do wish that this kit had some type of variable setting, maybe a low, medium, and high. I really wish it has a screen like the Nunchaku or that Rincoe Mechman. I would have like to have seen that on this. But if they couldn’t do that, I would have like to have seen different power settings.
Battery threading on the battery cap, not exactly the best. I think it could have been smoother. It’s a con.
This is a direct output device. Meaning, as the battery life decreases, your performance is going to suffer. That’s going to be a con for some people.
But that’s it on the cons. Really no deal breakers in the cons. It does have a few pros. Let’s get into all the pros.
The first pro is going to be the looks. I love the green one, I love the way they matched the tank to it. I like the way it goes from green to black. Awesome, awesome job, Advken.
I like the way they matched everything up between the tank and the mod. Awesome job.
It’s got a really good flavor for a top airflow tank. Let me show you what I’m talking about. Let me show you what I’m working with here. Nice cloud production. Like I said, for a top airflow tank, the flavor is actually pretty good.
It does take three different cells. You can use a 21700, a 20700, or a 18650. That’s a pro.
It’s got a nice, little contour to it. It’s not just a straight tube. It’s got a nice, little bubble on the bottom. I like it, it’s a pro.
Nice paint job.
Good build quality.
It’s an easy carry.
And the last pro is going to be, I love all the colors it’s available in
That’s it, Insiders. Those are my cons and pros. Let’s chat about this one a little bit.
I like it because it does have a swappable battery. Some people are not going to consider it a true starter kit as I said in the beginning of the video because it doesn’t have an internal battery. To me, that’s a personal decision you’re going to have to make your own mind up about. I do wish the performance was a little better. There is a significant decrease in the performance as your battery life decreases. While the performance decreased is very notable as the battery goes down, this thing does do what it sets out to do. It’s a simple type of kit. And while I do really like the form factor and the looks on it, I think there are better options in this form factor. I’ve said them before, probably the Uwell Nunchaku, the Rincoe Mechman. They have screens with adjustable wattage. If you’re going to go with something with this type of form factor, you’re probably better off going for something like that. You won’t be able to use a 21700 in those two that I mentioned but I think you get a lot more bells and whistles with those two set-ups.
Let’s go over some of the specs on the Advken Owl starter kit. It measures in at 93mm x 27mm. It weighs in at 61g. 3 cells can be run in this mod, 21700, a 20700, or a 18650. It fires down to 0.1 ohms. It is a direct output device. It does have an LED battery indicator. It’s mostly made out of aluminum alloy. Protections include low voltage, short circuit, reverse polarity, overload, 8 seconds, and overcharge. It does come with the awesome Owl tank that we did do a full review on. We’ll put a link in the description. The Owl tank has a 3ml capacity and it comes with a 0.16 ohm and a 0.2-ohm coil. This kit is available in green, red, black, purple, blue, silver, and orange.
