Now, when you’re looking at this tank, you gotta ask yourself does the performance and flavor outweigh the cons? I have to kind of give it a reluctant yes. It’s got really good flavor that justifies buying it for me but that’s going to be a personal decision for you. I just want to make sure that you go into this purchase with your eyes wide open. It does have a few cons that would definitely make some people not purchase it so just make sure you know that before you go into it. For me, the flavor and the clouds definitely negate those cons that I spoke about but that might not be for everyone.
First Impression Out of the Box
DeucesJack: What’s up, everyone! DeucesJack at vapinginsider.com. Got a new RTA for you today. I got the Asmodus Dawg. Yeah, DAWG, Dawg. That’s the way we say it in New York. Anyway, made in conjunction with Asmodus and Alex from Vapors MD. He’s a very popular Russian YouTube reviewer. 25mm dual coil RTA with a postless deck, 3.5 ml capacity.
Let’s cut down low. Let’s check it out, up close and personal. We’ll come back on top. We’ll do cons and pros and then we’re out of here. I’m going to see you down low. Alright everyone welcome to the down low portion of this video. Today, we’re going over the Asmodus Dawg RTA. This is an RTA that is in conjunction with Alex from Vapors MD and Asmodus. You can see, I have the stainless steel one right there. It’s also available in black, gold and blue. A little bit more Asmodus branding. On the box, tells you what’s included in the kit. Pause it here if you want to read it.
What’s in the Box
- 1x DAWG RTA by asMODus X VapersMD
- 1x Replacement glass section
- 2x Pre wrapped Oni fused Clapton coils (measuring in at approximately 0.3 ohms each)
- 1x Spare parts pack
- 1x User manual
Let’s open this up and let’s see what we got. There is your Dawg RTA. Kind of neat looking RTA. We’re going to put that on deck for a second. Here’s a little bit of a pro tip that I started doing. See that C6? What I do now on some of my boxes is I write the coily number inside. So this one is coily 6. That will give you the perfect coil length for a postless deck on this. If you guys want to start doing that, it’s not a bad practice to get into. On the bottom of the box, you have a spare glass. Also included in the bottom of the box is an Asmodus Dawg RTA owner’s manual, an allen key and a spare parts bag that includes spare o-rings and spare deck screws. There’s also coils included in the package and I believe, those are the ones I have installed in here.
From Top to Bottom
We’ll start off on top as usual. We have a goon style drip tip, nice and snug. All of my other goons fit in there fine. You do have some nice little bit of knurling on the top here that I do like. You can get a nice grip on it. Machining is typical Asmodus, just phenomenal. Really, really beautiful. Check that out. Look at that big chunk of metal on that top cap. This thing is just gorgeous. They did a nice job on the machining. We have a recessed fill port with kidney bean fill ports on either side. If you overfill a little bit, it’s no big deal. There is your chimney section right here. You have some o-rings holding everything in place, as well as some o-rings on the interior of the top cap. Like I said, this thing goes on buttery smooth, just gorgeous.
On the bottom, we have these three airflow slots. They are fully adjustable with stoppers on both ends. The tolerance is a little tight but it does loosen up after you start using it for a while. On the bottom of the RTA, you’ll see a gold-plated 510, some Dawg branding, some Asmodus branding, some Vapors MD branding, insulator ring around the 510 connection, with some stainless steel threading around that.
In order to access the deck, you screw off the bottom like you do on any other atomizer. The first thing you’re going to notice is, look at that nice conical shape. See that nice conical design? Man, that’s going to contribute to really good flavor and this one does have good flavor, it really does. And this is definitely a part of it. Threading on here is really nice and buttery smooth.
Here is your deck. These are the coils, I believe, that came with it. These are the ones, I said, if you put them on the coily, use a six and then what you do is you install them straight up and then you take your coiling rod and you bend them over that airflow right there just like that. So you want it right over that airflow so that little cup right there, that cup, you want that hitting the bottom inside of your coil. That’s how you want to place your coils on this. Basically, a postless deck. Your deck screws are accessed over here with a hex key, gold-plated deck screws. Here are your wicking ports right here. It’s not a GTA style deck. It almost looks like one but it’s not. It kind of has like that cross thing going on and you’re tucking your wicks in the corner of the cross.
There are you juice ports right there. That will feed your wicks and there’s your air flow right there. Your air flow will come up these little pipes here and hit the coil. That’s kind of cool, man. You want to get it as close to those little pipes as you can so you’re getting all that flavor from the bottom of the coil. That’s exactly how you want to place your coils.
This is a pretty simple deck to build on. It’s a postless deck. We’ve all built on them before so I’m not going to build on it. I’m going to leave this one in there but I am going to wick it for you.
Cotton we’re going to be using today is Native Wicks Platinum blend. You guys know, that’s one of my favorite wicking materials. Want to tear yourself off a nice chunk enough for two coils. Get it pointy on one end and then just send it right through. Just like that, nice and tight. Get it nice and tight like that and on this one, again, you don’t want to go crazy with the wicking material. You don’t want to stuff it in there. What you want to do is you want to cut it right on top of that o-ring, right there. That’s where you want to be, right there.
Now we’re going to do the same thing on the other side. We’re going to get one side nice and pointy and we’re going to send it right through like so. Now we can use this one as a guide. We can cut it right there and on the other side, we’re going to do the same thing. We’re going to cut it right above that o-ring right there and then we can do the same thing. We can use that one as a guide and give it a nice cut. Shout-out to the Vape Shears, best scissors in vaping.
Now, in order to wick this thing properly, you want to take whatever wicking tool you use. I like to use a dental pick. You just gently stuff the ends of those wicks right in there, make sure you got plenty of space. There’s a little ring around that gives you a guide and you just want to get them in there nice and easy. Nothing too crazy. Don’t mess with the natural wicking properties of the cotton. You do that on all four corners, just like so, just like that. Same thing over here, nice and gently. Don’t go crazy stuffing it in there. Just nice and gentle, try not to disturb that cotton and when you’re done, that’s what it should look like.
Juice we’re going to be using today is A La Mode mixed berry. This is like a mixed berry pie. This stuff is fantastic. Go check it out on Apollo e-cigs. Really, really good juice. I’ve been enjoying it, man. I ordered it just so I could get free shipping and let me tell you something, man. Very, very happy that I ordered it because it is fantastic. One of my favorite vapes.
Get those wicks started. Get them nice and wet. Paint them up a little bit. Make sure you get some on the coil itself. Get them nice and juicy, see? What I like about this deck is they put that little ring. See this little ring here where you tuck your wicks behind? I like that. Sometimes you see a deck that’s designed without this ring and it’s open and you kind of got to mold your wicks in there. You don’t have to do that on this one. That’s kind of cool. Get them nice and wet then what we do is we give it a quick test fire. Make sure we got vape. We do.
Now it’s time to put everything back together. Take the top part of your tank section, shove the deck in there. Give it a little bit of a reverse thread so it catches and once it catches, see how nice and smooth that goes on? Just beautiful. Make sure it’s nice and tight. Take the top cap off and let’s fill it up with some berry pie goodness. Check that out. Get it nice and filled up. See? That’s why I like these recessed ones because if you overfill a little bit, it’s no big deal. I like that.
Put your top cap back on and now we’re ready to cut back on top and vape on the Dawg RTA by Asmodus and Alex from Vapors MD. See you back on top.
Alright, everyone! We’re back on top with the Asmodus Dawg RTA. Nice flavorful RTA. The airflow on this one, it’s a little bit on the whistling side. Very easy to build and wick. I showed that to you down low. Capacity could definitely be better. 3.5 ml is just not cutting it. They should have bubble glass. They’ve done something with it to increase the capacity because the capacity on it is just not good. It comes in stainless steel, black, blue, gold and purple.
My only issue with this thing and I’ve wicked it every way past Sunday, I’ve tried fat wicks, I’ve tried long wick, short, way extending the wick out and everything. But no matter what I do, every time I fill this thing up, it leaks a little bit. Not a lot, just a little bit, like you’ll see a couple of little drops come out on the initial fill up and then it’s good. I don’t understand it because I got a great wicking game so don’t tell me it’s my wicking. I’ve tried wicking at a few different ways. It just leaks every time on the fill up so that’s definitely going to be a con.
Let’s get into the cons and the pros.
I already mention the leaking on the initial fill up so we’ll put that in the con category.
It’s a little bit whistling when it’s wide open. We’re going to give it a con for that.
You can’t adjust the AFC while it’s on the mod. It’s almost impossible. You kind of get in there and you it’s just hard, man. They should have made it easier to adjust the AFC. Maybe bolds it out a little bit, maybe a little bit more grip on there so I’m narrowing or something but it’s you basically got to adjust the AFC with the tank off the mod.
The capacity, we already spoke about it, needs to be larger.
No 510 drip tip adaptor, that’s a con.
$45 is the price point on this thing. A little bit on the pricey side. We’re going to give them a con for that.
Let’s get into the pros.
First pro – it’s got great flavor. Flavor on this thing is on point. We’re going to give them a pro for that.
Nice airflow, it’s smooth even though it’s a little whistling.
It’s well machined like most Asmodus products. We’re going to give them a pro for that.
Very easy to build, the coils that are included are fantastic. Both of those things are pros.
Love the conical design on the chimney, that’s a pro.
Really good cloud production, we’re going to give them a pro for that.
I like the looks of it, man. The looks of it is really nice. I’m going to give them a pro on that.
And it’s got a nice deck that you saw down low. We’ll give them a pro for that.
I want to thank Asmodus for sending this one to me for review. Make sure you go check them out at their website. They have a distribution website where you can buy directly from them. They got all of their stuff over there at VapeRange.com. You’ll definitely be able to find something over there that you like.
