So basically, if I have to bottomline this for you, I would tell you this. It’s got a little bit better flavor than the Unity and Kylin M when wicked correctly. Missing that push-up piece, I think, brings the wicking game to another level and I’m not sure the flavor difference is worth the trouble of the wicking game for this one. That’s something you gotta have to make up your own mind on. For me, it’s not. For me, I just rather run my Unity or my Kylin M. that’s the bottomline.
What’s up, Insiders! Deucesjack at VapingInsider.com. Today, I got another mesh tank for you. This is going to make three that I’ve tried so far. The ones I know of so far, the Vandy Vape Kylin M, the Profile Unity, and this one, the Damn Vape Doom. I’m going to tell you exactly what I think on this one compared to the other two. I’ll tell you straight off the bat, though, on this one, you are going to need some sort of wicking game. So let’s cut down low and go over everything.
Before we get into the video, make sure you check out our new merch site. You can get my tagline on a shirt or a hoodie.
What’s In The Box
- 1 DOOM RTA
- 1 Spare Glass Tube
- 1 0.11ohm QUAD Mesh Coil
- 1 0.13ohm HEX Mesh Coil
- 2 Foxtail-M Cotton
- 1 Mesh Coil Jig
- 1 User Manual
- 1 Spare Parts Bag
From Top To Bottom
Let’s check this thing out. Kind of nice, right? Got some nice Doom on the tank there. I’m not sure I’m crazy about the branding on the tank, though. I don’t know if I want my tank to say Doom on it. Maybe we’ll get lucky and that will rub off after a while. But it’s a good looking tank. Also included in the packaging is you get a bag of spares, a bunch of spare o-rings, you get some spare deck screws, you get a top cap fill port tightening piece, and a blue philips head screwdriver. Let me show you what I’m talking about. You can use this piece right here to tighten down the top fill port. You get a rather nice user manual that has some nice pictures and goes over the wicking, i do like that. You get some cotton, you get a coil bending tool which we’ll going to go over when we build it, and you get a spare glass with the Doom branding on it.
Let’s go over the tank real quick. Don’t mind that rubber piece in the middle. We’ll going to it and take it out. That’s for TPD. We’ll going to take that out right away, as soon as I open this tank up. Nice, clear goon style drip tip. Does fit rather snug. Definitely loving the gun metal. The gunmetal on this is absolutely gorgeous. Nice roughness over here so you can really easily get a rip on the top cap. It’s got super, super, smooth threading. The threading on this should be on a roll because it’s like butter. It’s just fantastic.
In order to take the tank apart, you just give it a twist form the top here. I hand tighten it when I put the glass back in and you just take everything out. And now you pop that silly rubber TPD piece out and just chuck it because nobody is ever going to use it. Again, when you put the top cap part back on, just smooth. The threading on this is just unbelievable.
Now I’m going to give you a quick demonstration of what this tool is for. See this, right there? That’s where you can get some leverage on it and rally tighten down that top cap fill port right there. Speaking of the fill ports, check this thing out. Massive, massive kidney bean shaped fill port holes. Absolutely fantastic. You can take a bottle of juice and just dump your juice in there if you want to. Great, great job on that. On the bottom, you can see, we have some Doom branding. Gold-plated 510 that protrudes quite a bit. Stainless steel threading around that.
In order to access your deck, you just screw the bottom off like this and again, no surprises here. The threading is beautiful. There’s your base right there, we’re going to put that on the side for a second. But before we do, let me show you, it has the same type of roughness on it as the top cap, just really nice, easy to get a grip of. Now you want to take the deck out, kind of give it a little wiggle, and it pops out just like that. We’re going to go over the deck in a second but let me show you the interior here first. You got side airflow coming in from there. And the side airflow comes in and you also got a conical design over here. Very, very nice. This part right here, is the part that’s going to feed your wicking port s but it’s not a wicking port. They’re calling it 3D wicking. I’m going to show it to you. I’m going to show you exactly how it works.
So here’s the deck right here. You’ll notice right away, it’s not like the Unity or the Kylin deck. It does not have that spring in the middle. Nothing is pushing the cotton up against the coil. But what it does have is this. You see how that slot goes straight through and underneath here? What happens with this deck is you’re lying your cotton on this bed right here. You’re going to lay it this way and the juice is going to go through here. And not only is it going to wick the tails that you hang a little bit in this part, but it’s also going to wick from the bottom through the center, all the way through the top. And that’s very important because the center of a mesh coil is what gets heated the most quickly and that’s where you tend to get your dry spots so you have wicking directly underneath that as opposed to just getting it from the sides. Really, really nice, innovative design on that. Very, very impressed by that. Now you do have Phillips head screws on the side right here. That’s good, I like that better than flat heads.
Before we actually build this thing, let’s go over the two different oils that come in the box. I’m also going to compare them to other mesh strip coils that are out on the market right now. So what we have here is we have two different mesh coils. This is the Quad mesh coil that ohms out at 0.11 and this is the Hex mesh strip that ohms out at 0.13. Both are good for 45-70W. These are the mesh strips that come in your kit. Now, what I did was I left the two Damn Vape strips where they are.
This is the OFRF Next mesh strip. That’s the 0.15 ohm strip right there. You can see, it’s the same exact size. You can run it in this tank. Over here, we have the Vandy Vape 0.15 ohm strip, right here. Again, same exact size, you should have no problem running it in this tank. Over here, we have the OG Wotofo 0.18 strip. Again, same exact size. You can run it in here, no problem. It’s funny, the vandy Vape and the Quad look very similar and the Wotofo and this one actually look very similar as well. But the good news is all of these strips, they’re the same exact size. You can run these strips in this tank as well if you choose to.
What we’re going to do today is today, we’re going to run the Quad mesh, the 0.11 ohm. We’ll save this one for later. The first thing you want to do is you want to get your coil bending tool and you see this little notch right here? You want to take your coil and you want to bend it around that notch. You just want to give it a little roll, maybe. You know what I mean, back and forth. Make sure you got the right shape. When you’re done, your coil should look something like that.
So now what you want to do now that your coil is bent properly, you want to take your post screws and you just want to loosen them up, pop them open like that, do the same thing on the other side, get them nice and white, just like so. Now, you want to take your perfectly half circle, round coil, and just pop it in there, just like that. Now what you want to do is you just want to lightly tap your finger on top, just to hold it in place while you screw it in. same thing on the other side, lightly, gently, just tap that finger on tap to hold it in. make sure you clamp it down good. Give the other side a nice twerk, make sure it’s down there nice and even. And now what we can do is we can turn this on and we can give it just a quick pulse just to get some of the oils from our fingers off of it. Just like that, boom, quick. See how that’s nice and even, blowing from the center outwards? That’s exactly how you want it. Just like that, perfect. We’re ohming out at 0.15 which is close enough.
Now what you want to do, you want to take a nice piece of Native Wicks, whatever cotton you use, just eyeball yourself a nice fat chunk. Give one end a pinch, just like this and just send it right through. And you really want this to be tight. You really kind of want to just almost force it in there because remember, there’s no spring in them at all in this thing. So this is gotta be tight. Give it a wiggle, really jam it in there, just like that. And then, this is the important part. What you want to do is you want to run your scissor right along the top there, almost flush with that square part that I showed you before, and just give it a cut, right there, just like that. Turn it around, I’m going to show you again. See where that part get square there? Just pull your scissor out a little bit from there and give it a cut. So that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to do it again right here, just right there. Boom, just like that. You don’t need long wicks on this thing, you really don’t because what you’re doing is, when you’re wicking this, you don’t want to drop your cotton down, all the way in there. You want to leave some room for it to travel underneath so it can hit the bottom side of the cotton.
What we’re going to do now is we’ll just going to take our dental pick. We’re just going to gum up a little bit of that. Not a lot, just a little bit. Just gum it up. You don’t want it sticking out too much. Just want a little bit, like that. See how that’s hanging down but you can still see some room for the liquid to flow? That’s how you want it. Now we’re going to do the same thing on the other side. We’re going to take our cotton and we’re just going to dam up that top part of the wicking port. You don’t want to go crazy stuffing the wick in there like you do with a Unity or Kylin in. this is a different wicking technique. Just want to pop it down in there, just like that. See how I still have space for the juice to flow? Now, what we’re going to do is, this takes a couple of cuts. So now we’re just going to cut that top piece off. Just get it out of there. We don’t need it. Just get it out of there. Trip that cotton up so it looks nice because we really don’t need it. We can give this thing a bit of a half cut because that cotton is just not needed. Get all that excess cotton out of there. And that’s how it should look like. It should look like that and you should be able to see some air in there. In this side, we can tuck it a little more, maybe in this side, we can actually cut. See how you did that? Anything hanging over this edge right here, just get rid of it because you don’t need them. See how that looks now? See how I have this little bit of space over here for the juice to flow underneath and wick from underneath here? That’s how you want them.
Juice It Up
Let’s juice this thing up. Juice we’re going to be using today is Clown Liquids Sweet Tooth. This is one of my absolute favorite juices. It’s a raspberry cotton candy, it’s phenomenal. Now, what we want to do is we want to make sure we really saturate that cotton. We want to really put that juice on there, get that cotton nice and saturated. And don’t forget, this is a lot of cotton so you want to make sure you get that cotton soaked up good and you want to make sure this is tight because you don’t want any dry spots because that’s how you get a dry hit on mesh. Any type of dry spot is going to give you a dry hit and trust me, when you dry hit on mesh, it’s like walking through the ninth gate of hell. You don’t want to do it. Just keep working that juice in and pulsing the coil and getting it worked into that cotton.
Once you have all that done, you want to take your base and you want to line up those juice ports, make sure it goes in correctly and just kind of wiggle it in there. Pop it in there, just like that. See that? See how that popped in? That’s how you want it. You want to make sure when you pop it in, you’re not seeing any of the o-ring. If you’re seeing the o-ring, it’s not in good. It’s not seated properly. Make sure it’s pushed in there well. Now you take your base section and just thread it on, just like so. I like to close the airflow. We’re going to close the airflow up. And now, because of those nice, huge fill ports, we’re just going to dump the juice in there, all 4mls. Now we’re going to take our top cap, we’re going to twist it on there, and now, we’re all ready to vape.
Alright, Insiders! Let’s get in to those cons and pros on the Damn Vape Doom because I’m telling you right now, we got a lot to talk about.
First con is going to be the wicking on this one. When I’m giving them this con, I’m comparing it directly to the Kylin m and the Unity because that’s the only point of reference that I have. Those are relatively easier to wick than this one. This one, you’re going to need a bit of a wicking game. It’s a little bit more finicky than the other two atomizers I mentioned.
Along the same lines, the thing that makes the wicking a little tougher on this one is it’s lacking that little push-up piece, that little spring-loaded piece that they use on the Unity and the Kylin M. I give Damn Vape props for going their own way. The problem is I think it lacks in the wicking department because it’s missing that piece. Does that make sense? Let me explain why. You’re using a lot of cotton in there, right? When that cotton gets wet, it’s going to sag. When it sags, it separates from being pushed up against that mesh coil. Anything that’s missing, any piece of cotton that’s not covering that mesh coil is going to create a dry hit. You have a bigger propensity t get dry hits on this atomizer than you do the other two, the Kylin M or the Unity. That’s just my opinion, that’s the way I feel about it. I’ve had this atomizer for quite a few weeks now.
But that’s it on the cons. There’s not a lot to complain about here. This one is just a little bit more finicky than the other two and I don’t think the design is as good as the other two. But let’s move on to the pros because there’s definitely a lot of pros to go over.
First pro is going to be, the wicking game that they decided to go with the design that they decided to go with is definitely innovative. I showed you down low how the cotton wicks from underneath through that little tunnel there. Very, very innovative. Very, very impressed. I have to say, I think it’s a bang up design.
Surprisingly, I haven’t really gotten a lot of dry hits. Every once in a while, when it’s time to change the cotton, this thing will dry hit quicker. If you wick these, the Unity and the Kylin M on the same day, the cotton is going to dry hit quicker on this tank than it will the other two. And the reason being is because it’s missing that push up piece. You’re going to get some sag and you’re going to have to replace the cotton sooner on this one, than you will on the other two atomizers. But surprisingly, I didn’t get as many dry hits as I thought I would without that push up piece. That’s basically the point on this pro. That’s what I’m trying to point out.
It’s built nice. This thing’s got nice build quality.
The overall design, I think Damn Vape did a bang up job.
It’s got really nice flavor and clouds once you get that wicking down. Let me show you what I’m working with here. Right now, I’m ohming out at 0.16. I got it at 58W on my Coldsteel 100. Nothing wrong with that, getting good flavor.
If you put a gun to my head and said, “Deuces, which one is better, the Unity, the Kylin M, or the Damn Vape Doom?” I have to say, if you wick this one right, the flavor is a little bit better than the Unity and the Kylin M. It’s not ‘Oh my God’ better but it’s definitely a little bit better. It’s a little bit more saturated, in my opinion. It doesn’t have that same wispiness that the Kylin M and the Unity have.
So far, I’m digging the capacity. I got no issues with the capacity. It’s good capacity. This one’s easy to build as the other two atomizers.
I also think, because of the way they designed the airflow, I think I’m getting a little bit more warmth off of the vape on this one, as opposed to the other two that are on the market right now. That’s just my opinion, that’s the way I feel. I definitely feel a little bit more heat as opposed to the other two.
That’s it, Insiders! Those are my pros and cons. I know they were a little wordy but this thing’s designed a little differently than other atomizers so I kind of had to get a little bit more wordy with this one. I apologize for it but it was the best way I knew how to convey my thoughts.
So let’s go over some of the specs on the Damn Vape Doom. it measures it 26mm x 31.6mm. It’s 150g in weight. It has a 4ml capacity, an 810 goon style drip tip. There are two types of mesh included in the box. You get a 0.11 quad mesh and a 0.13 hex mesh. It’s also compatible with Vandy Vape, Wotofo, and OFRF mesh strips. It’s available in black, stainless steel, gun metal and rainbow.
