I will add one word of caution. Let’s remember that this is a mechanical mod and it may not be for everybody. In order to use this mod effectively, you need to have a good working knowledge of Ohm’s Law. You need to really know your battery safety and have a good idea of what you’re doing when it comes to building coils. This mod is not for a beginner. I know it looks nice and cute but at the end of the day, it is a mechanical box mod so please be safe.
If you are a squonker, this is a must have. It looks just like some of those 3D printed mods that people pay hundreds of dollars for but it is at an extremely low price point. I know that they are sold out all over the place on pre-order right now. If you can find one, definitely pick one up because you will appreciate the thought that went into developing a squonk box like this.
If you’re new to squonking or you always wanted to try it out but you didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on a piece of plastic that was printed in somebody’s garage, then you should definitely go pick yourself up a Vandy Vape Pulse box mod. My personal opinion is, I think it’s one of those truly special mods that comes around every once in awhile. Tony B and Vandy Vape knocked the cover off the ball when it comes to the Pulse Box Mod. You are going to be seeing a lot of these in our community in the very near future. It’s just an awesome squonker at an awesome price. My readers know that I don’t really talk about price unless something is extremely expensive or it is an extreme value. This box mod is an extreme value. You just can’t go wrong with this mod and it is DeucesJack approved. If you can find one in stock, open up that wallet and get one. I know I will be buying more as soon as things calm down and everyone else has a chance to pick one up.
First Impression Of The Box
When you first open up the box to the Vandy Vape Pulse BF Box Mod, you will see the actual mod sitting right on top part of the interior. Take the mod out and open up the side panel where the squonking bottle is stored and you will see your squonk bottle, 18650 adapter, and all of your spares tucked into the 18650 adapter. Everything is very nicely packaged and it looks like Vandy Vape has upped their presentation game a bit. Like most vapers that enjoy squonking, I’ve been anxiously awaiting this one for a while now. I can’t wait to load it up and see how it performs.

From Top To Bottom
Before we get into the specifics of the mod itself, I wanted to go over a few details about its creator. Tony B has a very successful YouTube channel called The Vapor Trail Channel. Over the last year or so on his channel, he has really been getting into squonking. So much so that he has developed two of the best squonking RDA’s on the market today. They are the Pulse 22 and the Pulse 24 by Vandy Vape. Since Tony B is into squonking, he does have his pulse (no pun intended) on the squonking market and he seems to know just what most squonkers are looking for. I have interviewed Tony in the past and I have to say that after meeting him personally, he is a really nice guy that is extremely down to earth. Of course, this will in no way, shape, or form affect my opinion of this review but I just wanted to point it out because it’s really great to see genuinely nice people succeed. Okay, enough of all the Kumbaya stuff, let’s get into the mod and see what we have here.
The first thing you notice about the Pulse Box Mod is how light it is. Even with a battery installed, it is what I would call a featherweight mod. A lot of times, that lack of weight gives the mod a cheap feeling. That is not the case with this little squonker. Even though it’s light, you can tell from the moment that you put it in your hand that it has some high-quality construction to it. The material that they used is a combination of nylon and ABS plastic. The mod feels extremely solid as well as comfortable when you put it in your hand.
On the top part of the mod, we do have the 510 connection. There is a stainless steel circular plate around it that has 3 airflow slot cut outs in order for air to get underneath your atomizer to keep things nice and cool. Around the inner circumference of the ring, there is a channel that I’m sure is there to catch juice should some get away from your squonking connection. The 510 pin is spring loaded and it does have a really firm, short throw to it. The 510 is very stiff and it really does not move around all that much.
The fire button on the Pulse has a chrome look to it. There is a big ring around it that is also done in chrome and the button is actually quite large when you compare it to the overall size of the mod. The button is a little bit on the mushy side for me and to be honest, I wish it was a little bit more tactile feeling with some sort of click to it. It just feels like a mushy, short throw that you find on a lot of mechanical box mods. The nice thing about the button though is it really does not protrude from the mod all that much. It does have a slight raise off of the ring around the button but not enough to trigger an accidental fire if you put this mod in your pocket. Right below the fire button, there is a Pulse emblem that is engraved in the plastic.
I love these removable side panels. If the button of the mod is facing you, then the right side panel is the one that houses the squonk bottle and battery. Simply pull the side panel of your pulse and you will see the inside part of the firing switch and there is also a safety switch that allows you to turn the fire button off for storing the Pulse in a pocket or bag. The safety switch has a little Peek tab on it and you simply flip it up in order to disengage the circuit. Vandy Vape includes a spare screw for the switch as well as a spring. This is one of the features that I really love about the Pulse. I love the fact that you can turn the circuit off if you want to. I think it’s a simple ingenious idea that every mechanical box mod should have. There is some subtle Pulse branding on the exterior of this panel.
Right underneath the switch, we do have a stainless steel tube. The stainless steel tube or nozzle is what you slip the tube of your squonking bottle onto in order to get the mod to feed the liquid upward to your atomizer. I like the length of the of the stainless steel tube that they provided and after the first 2 or 3 times, it is quite easy to get the squonking bottle tube on and off.
Next to the bottle, we have enough room for a 20700 battery. Battery orientation markings are on the side of the battery tray. The proper way to install your battery in this mod is negative side up. Along the edges of the battery tray, there are five strong magnets. They do coincide with 5 magnets on the back of your side panel. Vandy Vape also provides spare magnets just in case you ever lose one. I think that is a really nice touch. There are also deep grooves cut out on the side of the battery tray that your side panel slips into. That, along with the magnets, ensure that your side panels stay on the mod at all times. There is not a lot of play in either panel of this mod. The side panels are very solid and they do stay in place extremely well. Vandy Vape has developed a plethora of colors for Pulse owners. You will be able to purchase them separately and mix and match them on your Pulse. Vandy Vape has also told me that there will be different colored squonk bottles available as well. Maybe that is why the mod only comes with one bottle.
With the fire button facing you on the left side, we do have another panel. This panel also has some Tony B branding on it but you really have to look hard to see it. The panel is also removable and once you remove, it you will be able to see the other side of things on the Pulse Box Mod. This panel adheres to the mod the same way that the other one does. This is also the place where you can push your 20700 battery out of the mod. It’s a nice feature, especially considering that there is no battery strap. I, for one, cannot stand battery straps and I think this works out much better. The battery contacts on the Pulse are made out of copper. The negative battery contact is on top and it is held in place between the 510 and the top part of the box. The positive contact is on the bottom and it actually runs through the left side interior of the mod in a channel that was made specifically for it. It comes out right in front of the fire button. It’s actually an extremely neat design that definitely cleans things up a lot as far as mechanical box mods go. This type of design gives the mod a very finished look.
I also love the fact that the left side of the mod has a wall that the squonk bottle rests up against. This is key because on a lot of mechanical squonk boxes, where both side panels are removable, if you push the squonk bottle too hard, the other side panel comes off. This will never happen with the Pulse mod because there is a little wall that the squonk bottle rests up against and if you do push it too hard, it will just push the squonk bottle against the wall and it will have no effect on your side panel coming off. There is also a little hole in the wall on the side of the mod that you can use to push your squonk bottle out, just like you would the battery. It’s the simple, ingenious things like this that you really come to appreciate on this box mod.
On the same side of the fire button, right below the button, there is a Pulse emblem. They also did a very nice job of curving out the edges on the corners of the mod. It’s that little curve on the edges of the box that makes the Pulse very easy and comfortable to hold. I also like the fact that underneath the fire button where you would squonk the bottle, they also did a little bit of an edge cutout in order to provide the user with more space to get their finger in there and squonk. By cutting out a piece of this corner, it makes squonking this mod very comfortable. This is just a very well thought out mod and you can actually see the time that Tony B put into this, as far as the thought process about how everything should work.
The silicone bottle included with the Pulse mod is a food grade super soft bottle. I really like the way they did it and the tube is actually precut so you don’t have to worry about cutting your tube and adjusting things. That’s a really nice touch by Vandy Vape. There is a stainless steel collar as well as a stainless steel top cap. The threading on the cap is very nice and so far, I have had no issues with getting the cap on and off. This is an extremely soft bottle though, so once you fill it, you do have to be careful and handle it around the collar so you don’t squeeze juice out all over the place. The collar does come off so you will be able to thoroughly clean the bottle. The squonk bottle is a little wider than most bottles that you will see in most squonkers of this size. The bottle does hold 8 ml’s of liquid. My only complaint with this bottle is the fact that they only included one. I really think Vandy Vape should have included a spare bottle with a sealable top cap so I could slip a juice bottle in my pocket and quickly swap it out if I run out of juice. That would have been absolutely ideal.
Vandy Vape also included an 18650 battery adapter in this package. It’s a nice touch but to be honest, I have not really used it. I just don’t see the purpose in using an 18650 battery when I have plenty of high quality 20700 batteries on hand. I will list it as a pro because there are a lot of people out there right now that don’t have 20700 batteries and for them, this is a definite pro. The battery adapter slips over the negative side of your battery and you install your 18650 negative side up.
The Look, Feel, And General Aesthetics Of The Mod
This is a very comfortable, very pocketable squonk mod. I just find it to be a very easy carry because it is so lightweight and I actually find it very comfortable to hold. It does have a nice high quality feel to it, yet at the same time, it is extremely light but it does not feel cheap. I love the colors. I love the fact that I can buy different side panels and mix and match my colors. I also like the fact that Vandy Vape is going to be providing colored bottles. I think these types of options lead to a wide range of customization for your Pulse. I’m always about choices and I love it when companies like Vandy Vape do this.
I really do like the look that Vandy Vape was going for when they created this mod. It has that look of a 3D printed mod but it doesn’t have the same rough texture that most of them have. This thing is really smooth as far as texture goes. The other thing you can’t complain about is the price. For a mechanical squonker, this thing is just extremely affordable. The look and feel you get at this price point is just phenomenal. I mean really, how many times have we seen these mechanical squonkers on Facebook being sold by these custom modders for anywhere between $100 and $400? They are basically just 3D printed boxes. The funny thing is, they have a waiting list and I, for one, think they are extremely overpriced and overhyped in most cases. Tony B saw an opening in this side of the market and said you know what, I can do this and I can do it at a much better price point. Well, he was right. He did a hell of a job on this mod and it was smart of him to make the type of mod that squonkers were lining up for. This Pulse is a big win for Tony B and Vandy Vape. Great job!
How Does It Vape
I think the vape quality on the Pulse mod is absolutely fantastic. I find that this mod hits hard and I have been getting an extremely enjoyable vape from it. I have paired it with my Pulse 22 RDA and basically, that atomizer has lived on this mod since I have acquired it. I love the vape that I get and I just think, the Pulse 22 along with the Pulse Box Mod work extremely well together.
Right now, I am running a single SS Framed Stapled Alien in my Pulse 22 atomizer. I have it on top of the Pulse Box Mod with some Raspberry Custard juice that I know extremely well. The coil in my atomizer is ohming out at .19 ohms and the vape is just absolutely phenomenal. This mod has a nice hit to it and I get a really high quality vape. I love the fact that I can carry a lot of juice in an extremely small, compact device.
What Would Make It Better
- Spare Squonk Bottle
- Better Fire Button
I have to admit, I’m a little surprised that this mod only came with one squonk bottle. Especially from Vandy Vape, I mean after all, they are known as the company that started including multiple drip tips in their packaging. I would have liked to have seen an extra squonk bottle included. It didn’t have to have a tube running out of it but it would have been nice if they had one that had the ability to be capped off. This way, you can carry it as a spare and just swap it out when you run out of juice. I think that little detail would have made an already great mod even better.
You can tell Vandy Vape spent a lot of time on this fire button and they have had it tested extensively. I know they did a test where they pressed it over 20,000 times and the button did not fail. I’m not saying it’s a cheap button nor am I saying that it doesn’t work well. What I am saying is I really don’t like the mushy feel of it. I think they should have gone with something that was a little bit more tactile feeling. I would have definitely appreciated a button with a shorter, less mushy throw. I get what they were going for, they wanted this thing to feel like one of the typical mechanical squonkers on the market today that are normally 3D printed. If that’s what they were going for, then they definitely achieved their goal. I’m just not a fan of it.
