First Impression Out Of The Box:

There’s nothing really special in the packaging. It’s a box with a mod in it and an instruction manual. The mod looks really clean. I love the color copper on it. The button does look a little out of place because it’s silver while the rest of the mod is copper. I would have preferred either a black or copper button. It kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. All in all, a very elegant simple-looking mod.

What’s In The Box:

  • 1X Smoant Charon Adjustable 218 Mod
  • 1X User Manual
  • Smoant Charon Adjustable 218 Review

From Top To Bottom:

As usual, we’ll start off with the 510 pin. Smoant actually makes a great 510 pin. It has a nice design on it and the 510 pin itself is threaded smoothly. There is a gold plated 510 pin that has a nice spring and throw to it. Straight across from the 510 pin, you have Star screws that seem to hold the mod together.

The firing button is big and circular. It has a ring around it and it’s very easy to find. However, the mod is copper in color and for some reason, Smoant decided to go with a silver firing button. I would have much rather preferred a black or copper button.

Along the sides of the mod, there is plenty of venting. In the vent holes, there seems to be some type of screen. The battery cover like the Charon TC is done extremely well. It seems to have a leather sticker on it that is of really nice quality. The bottom of the mod has some Smoant branding and 3-star screws.

This mod has no screen but instead has a potentiometer. The potentiometer is black and made out of plastic. There are 5 settings marked 1 through 5 in Roman numerals. The potentiometer is kind of loose and I would have preferred it to be a little bit stiffer. It seems to be a little too easy to adjust for my taste. Most other variable voltage box mods I have have a lot of tension on the actual potentiometer. I have come to like that better since it keeps the potentiometer setting where it is no matter where you put the mod in a pocket or a bag.

Open up the battery door and you are greeted with a very clean sled. The Charon takes two 18650’s. There is a battery strap that will assist you in removing the batteries. The battery sled itself has clear battery orientation markings. Of course, in a mod like this, you want to be sure to use high quality 18650 batteries. The door is held in place by two strong magnets. This is a typical C frame mod and the battery door is very well done. There is no movement or wiggle to it. You can easily pick up the mod by the battery door and the battery door will stay on the mod. There is also no button rattle at all.

The Look, Feel, and General Aesthetics Of The Mod:

Like the TC version, this is an extremely elegant-looking mod. I really like the look and feel of it. I have always been a big fan of C-frame type mods. It feels great in the hand and very solid. All of the materials seem to be of high quality and the mod is very well put together. Being the owner of two other Smoant mods, this is something that I have come to expect from them. This mod does not disappoint in the looks department at all. The Charon is made out of zinc alloy and leather. It measures in at 53 by 25 by 91 millimeters.

The Board:

This mod is set up like a Hexohm or Noisy Cricket mod. It is strictly a variable voltage mod which means you dial in the voltage that you desire. It does have some protections built into it like resistance protection, over current protection, reverse polarity protection, temperature protection, and it has a 10-second overuse protection. So it’s not like you’re vaping an unregulated mech mod. While mod hits hard, it will give the user some basic protections. There is virtually no delay when hitting the fire button and this mod does ramp up most coils pretty quickly.

This mod will fire down as low as .1 ohms and as high as 3 ohms. It has a voltage range of 3.4 volts to 6.7 volts. The mod is also 95% efficient and will max out at 218 Watts.

The Menu System:

Because there is no screen, the menu system is really quite simple on the Charon Adjustable 218. Press the fire button 5 times and all the LED lights will flash 3 times. This will show you that the mod is either being turned on or off. Adjust the voltage simply by rotating the knob to a minimum of 3.4 volts or a maximum of 6.7 volts. The LED indicator will show you your battery life when the fire button is pressed. When the LED is red, it means that you have less than 20% battery left. When the LED is blue, it means that you are in the 20 to 70% range. When the LED is green, it means your battery life is above 70%. This is a really nice touch on a VV mod because, most of the time, on these types of mods, there is no battery indicator at all.

How Does It Vape:

This mod Vapes great. It vapes like a Hexohm. It hits hard and fast. It provides the user with an extremely satisfying vape. I enjoy variable voltage mods and the Charon is no exception. It’s a great simple, elegant yet very effective mod.

Conclusion:

If you’re in the market for a variable voltage mod but you don’t want to spend the dollars on a Hexohm or some of the more expensive ones, then I would definitely give the Charon Adjustable a serious look. It is extremely well built as well as great looking. It provides the user with an awesome vape. It hits just as hard as the other variable voltage mods that I own. The difference is the Charon Adjustable 218 looks better doing it. Smoant has a definite winner on its hands.
