First Impression Out Of The Box:

Well, this is interesting. I have to say that this is a first for me. I’ve never really seen a mod like this before. I shouldn’t say that, I have seen this type of mod from a company in the Philippines but it was not regulated. This is a regulated version of that particular mod that I have seen in the past. It’s interesting, and to be honest, I really can’t wait to throw a build in the Couples kit and see how it really performs.

Basically, what we have here is a dual 18650 mod with dual RDTA’s on top of it. In other words, you are going to have to mount four coils and wick them exactly like you would a typical RDTA. The mod gives you the choice of firing one RDTA or both at the same time. This is very interesting and it should be a lot of fun. Let’s get to it and break it all down.

What’s In The Box:

  • 1 x CP Couples Double Barrel Mod by Teslacigs
  • 2 x CP Couples RDTA
  • 4 x Prebuilt Clapton Coils (0.3Ω)
  • 8 x Spare Grub Screws
  • 1 x Organic Cotton Pad
  • 1 x Alley Key
  • 12 x Spare O-Ring
  • User Manual

From Top To Bottom:

The Mod:

First of all, I have to comment on the overall looks of the mod. I love the way they did the size of this mod and the overall shape. It has that Twisted Mech Tube sort of look to it that I think is just totally badass. I like the way it looks, and I love the way it feels in your hand. It just feels like a nice quality piece. Very well done, Tesla. Because this mod is so unique, I do have to do a little pregame before I start describing it. For all intents and purposes, this is really an AIO kit, I am not going to break the kit down in separate sections like I normally do. I’m just going to go over it all in this section.

Basically, what we have here is two RDTA’s that are mounted on top of a dual battery mod. There are tanks below the dual RDTA’s and there is a platform that creates one drip tip between the two separate atomizers. Just take a look at the included pictures and you’ll see exactly what I am talking about.

On the top of this atomizer, we have a platform that allows you to connect the airflow of both atomizers. What this black platform does is it goes over each individual atomizer and then it splits the air before it goes into the drip tip part of the platform. Actually, it’s a pretty ingenious design and I have to say I’m pretty impressed with it so far. The barrel sections for the RDTA’s do screw into the platform that acts as a drip tip. That’s the one thing that I was not too crazy about is the fact that you have a metal barrel screwing into a Delrin platform. I would have liked to have seen a metal platform or at the very least, make the threading on the inside metal. I just think the way it’s designed, it is way too easy to cross thread.

Tesla Couples Kit Review

I do like the fact that Tesla made the barrels independently adjustable as far as the airflow goes. What I mean by that is not only can you cut down the airflow but you can also move the slots around, to make sure that they are in front of your coil. The barrels are made out of metal and there is some light knurling on them for you to get a grip on it when adjusting the airflow. The airflow slots have stoppers on them. There is really no conical design on the interior of the batteries. Then again, this thing really isn’t built for flavor, it’s main goal is to be a massive cloud chucker. The barrels are held in place by two o’rings that are on the base of the RDTA’s. The tolerance on the o’rings is just fine.

The tanks in this kit hold 4 mls a piece. That gives you a total capacity of 8 mls. You can run the same flavor in each tank or you can run different flavors and they will stay separate. That’s kind of a cool feature because you can basically have two RDTA’s with two different flavors or you can just double your capacity and walk around with 8 ml’s of the same flavor. You also have the choice of being able to fire each RDTA independently or you can fire them together. This allows you to vape one flavor at a time or you can actually combine flavors and vape them together without actually having to mix the juice in the tank. That’s a really cool feature.

The biggest con that I do have with this whole setup is the fact that you are really forced to use all the proprietary stuff that comes in this kit. There is no way to run your own atomizer on it. You either run the stuff that Tesla provides in the kit or you will not be vaping on this kit. I definitely would have liked to have seen some sort of top plate that you could put on the mod while the tank is empty and be able to run your own atomizers on it. I understand that Tesla would not be able to create a drip tip that would combine both air flows because of the many different atomizers that are on the market today but it would have been nice if I could use 2 separate atomizers of my choosing with some type of top plate that would convert the top part to two traditional 510 connections.

Batteries for the Couples mod are loaded through the bottom of the mod. This mod has a hinged battery door that you push down and push out to open. Once the door is open, on the interior of the door, you will see battery indicator markings. The battery contacts on the door are gold plated and button style. If you look into the tube of the mod, there are no battery indicator markings. The tubes of the mod are lined with plastic for safety. On the bottom of the tubes, there are two, gold-plated, spring-loaded battery contacts. So far, all my batteries have sat in there very nicely and I have experienced no battery or button rattle on this mod.

On the front side of the mod, we have the fire button. The button is in the shape of a square with the corners rounded off. It seems kind of small for a mod of this size but it does work well. It does have a nice, clicky feel to it and it also fires right away with no delay. Right below the fire button, there is another oval-shaped button that lets you choose which atomizer you want to run. On the screen, you will see a Roman numeral 1 on the left side and a Roman numeral 2 on the right side of the screen. Click the oval button and one of the Roman numerals will disappear and there will be an X in its place. This will tell you that this particular side of the mod is now off. Click it again and it will turn off the other side of the mod. Click it a third time and you will again see both Roman numerals which is an indication that both sides of the mod will fire. Pretty simple and very easy to use.

It really is kind of cool that you have two different atomizers on one mod. Not only it is great from a versatility standpoint of running different juices but it’s also great because you can run different builds on each side of the mod. You could technically put a tootle puffer type of build on one side and a real rowdy build on the other side. I like the versatility that this kit provides when it comes to the type of vape you’re able to get off of it.

Below the oval shaped button is where you will find the rectangular shaped, .96-inch OLED screen of the Couples mod. It is basically a screen that is divided in half and it will give you all of the information you need separately for each atomizer. On each side of the screen, it will tell you the wattage, temperature, resistance, material, voltage, preheat, and battery life. The battery meter is shown in a graphic and percentage. Since this mod is run in series, even if you are firing only one atomizer, both batteries are working.

Below the screen is where you will find the up and down buttons. They are in a vertical arrangement and square in shape. They look exactly like the fire button just smaller. They also feel exactly like the fire button when you use them. Below the up and down button is where the charge update port is located. The Couples mod charges at 1.5 amps internally but we don’t recommend that you charge any dual battery mods internally. For safety sake, please buy yourself an external charger. The Couples is firmware upgradeable.

The Decks:

The decks on this mod are very unique. They do come out and they have a base that screws on around them. You don’t have to take them out in order to build on this mod but on the initial build, it does make it a bit easier. However, when you rewick this tank, you do not need to take the deck part out. You can just rewick it like you would any standard RDTA tank. The deck itself is not anything earth shattering. This is basically a standard velocity style deck on each side of the mod. In the middle of the deck, between the two velocity post, there is a fill port hole. The fill port hole will accommodate any type of bottle, including bullnose types of bottles.

The threading between the deck part and the base part is not the greatest. It is a little bit on the crunchy side and I do wish it was smoother. The base part of each side of the tank is held down when you screw the 510 connection part of the deck into the mod. There is tension created that holds each piece in place. It’s kind of a weird setup because you can actually thread the deck into the base first and then thread the whole base onto the tank section. What I like to do is start threading the deck into the base and then I thread the deck and base into the 510 connection. When that’s nice and tight, I turn the base to make sure that it’s snug up against the plate of the tank. The problem is, if you don’t thread the deck part through the base enough, you will not be able to make a connection with the atomizer. I think they should have made some sort of stopper on the base threading, where you are only able to thread it down to the point where it will make a connection. It would have made things a lot less confusing and easier to set up. That’s definitely going to be a con.

Tesla Couples Kit Review

The atomizer connection on both sides of the tank is not spring loaded. If it is, it’s the tightest spring-loaded 510 connection I’ve ever seen. The 510 connection is gold plated and the threading on it is very nice as well. Sitting right above the 510 connection on the deck are four holes that connect to the filling tube in between the post. When you squirt your juice down the filling tube, your juice will exit out of these four holes and fill up the tank.

The Look, Feel, and General Aesthetics Of The Mod:

When I first put this mod in my hand, I have to admit that I wasn’t too sure about it. It did seem really gimmicky and I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. I do like the finish as well as the look and feel of the mod. I think Tesla did a bang-up job on that part of it. I even like the RDTA’s and the way they look sitting on top of it. Even though, I’m really not an RDTA guy, I have to give Tesla credit. The mod really does feel phenomenal in the hand. I would love to see the same exact mod with a single, centered 510. I think that would be a fantastic seller for them. Looks-wise on this mod, there’s really not a lot to complain about. I think it’s a badass-looking mod.

The Board:

Tesla is using one of their proprietary boards in the Couples kit. I believe it’s basically a WYE chip with a different screen that is split in half. That’s exactly how it feels to me. It has the same type of feel on the menu system. The board is capable of 110 watts on each side. I think that may be a little bit of a stretch. Each RDTA will fire down as low as .05 ohms. It has a full temperature control suite and it is capable of firing Ni, Ti, SS304, SS316, and SS317. It has a temperature control range of 200 to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. It also has a TCR function for those of you that like to run your custom wires.

The Menu System:

The menu system on the Couples mod is pretty straightforward. You have to remember that we are dealing with a split screen here. If you want to enter the menu system, you simply click the fire button 3 times. That will highlight the left side of the screen. You then use your up and down buttons to scroll through the different parts of the menu. Whenever you land on a sub menu, that part of the screen will light up. In order to change that part of the screen, you simply hit the fire button. You then use the up and down buttons to change whatever setting you deem fit. That’s pretty much the whole menu system. It’s very simple and very easy to learn. It is also very similar to the WYE menu system, the only difference being, you have a split screen instead of just one screen.

How Does It Vape?

Most of you that read my reviews know that I’m really not a cloud chaser. I definitely consider myself more of a flavor chaser. I’m not saying that this setup has bad flavor because that would be a lie. The flavor on it is actually pretty good but it is more of a cloud chucker setup. It’s a fun mod to use if you are into that clouds bro thing. If you are in the mood to chuck some massive clouds, this is definitely the set up that you want to go with. I mean, this thing can really chuck the clouds. The Couples mod could make a mosquito fogger blush. It really is that cloudy of a kit.

Most of the time, I have been running one flavor on both sides of the mod. I did try running two separate flavors on each side of the mod. It’s an interesting way to vape but it’s really not my style. I tend to like a pure sort of flavor and when I start combining two flavors like that, it’s really not my jam. I know some people are definitely going to like that aspect of this kit. It is an interesting way to vape and something innovative and new.

I have tried putting TC builds in it and vaping it. The Couples vapes fine in TC mode. In fact, it vapes just like a Tesla WYE does in TC mode. That’s actually saying that it does really good TC. However, you have to remember that this mod really isn’t built for that type of vaping. This is a cloud-chucking mod and you are definitely going to want to run it in power mode most of the time.

What Would Make It better:

  • Ability To Run My Own Atomizers
  • Too Many Proprietary Parts

I would have really liked to have seen some type of top plate that would have centered the 510 and given me the ability to run my own atomizer. Even a top plate that would have extended each 510 connection to above the tank would have been fantastic. I think when you’re going to develop something as intricate as this, you really need to do things like that and take the design all the way. I think Tesla dropped the ball a little bit on that aspect of the mod.

Another annoying thing about this setup is the fact that there are so many proprietary parts. It wouldn’t be that bad if they would have included some spares for those parts. I mean, you drop this mod one good drop and it’s pretty much useless, if you break anything on the top part of it. I would have liked to have seen a spare drip tip platform. I would have also liked to have seen some way to remove the tank section and replace it, just in case it breaks. You break any of that glass in the tank section and you can throw this mod way. I don’t know how many times I have to say it? If you are going to create proprietary parts for any type of mod then you have to make them readily accessible and interchangeable or you have to provide some spares. Neither was done in the case of the Couples kit.

There is no doubt about it, this is a fun kit. In fact, it’s actually a blast to use. If you are the type of person that really likes to chuck those clouds, you can put this one on your list. I don’t know a setup out there that will chuck bigger clouds than this kit. This thing is an absolute beast when it comes to clouds. The flavor is pretty good on it as well and you would expect it to be since you are basically vaping on two RDTA’s at the same time. If you are a vaper that likes to vape on RDTA’s and you like massive cloudage, this one is DeucesJack approved. It has a high quality chipset in it and the finish on it is fantastic. Go get yourself one and start clouding up the neighborhood.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this whole review. Please keep in mind that because this is a somewhat unique mod, it did take a long time to explain everything in the detail that you are used to seeing in my reviews. I apologize for the length of this review but it was the only way I could really accurately cover it.
