First Impression Out Of The Box:

Man, this thing is tiny. The mod itself is extremely small and so is the tank. The packaging is a two-tier box with the mod on the top tier and all the goodies on the bottom tier. I still can’t get over just how small this mod really is. For a tiny mod, it does have some nice weight to it. It does feel like it is very well built and I’m actually liking the finish on it. It has a smooth, satin type of finish with no real texture to it. The buttons seem to be very well done, too. Let’s load this little mod up and see how it actually vapes.

What’s In The Box:

  • 1 x Tesla Sparrow Box Mod
  • 1 x Tesla Sparrow Tank
  • 2 x Tesla Sparrow Replacement Coils
  • 1 x Tesla Sparrow Tank Replacement Glass
  • 1 x Bag of Spares
  • 1 x Micro USB Cable

From Top To Bottom:

The Mod:

On the top of the mod, we have a gold plated 510 pin. It has a pretty decent spring to it and has a really nice throw. The 510 connection makes good contact with all of the atomizers I have tried so far and this mod will accommodate any atomizer as long as it is not greater than 20 mm in circumference. Anything bigger will overhang. The threading on the 510 connection is very smooth and there are 3 air slots that are kind of carved into the mod to allow the base of your atomizer to remain cool.

The top of the mod slopes down and towards the fire button. The fire button is quite big for a mod of this size and it does have a good clicky feel to it. Right above the fire button we do have a battery meter. The battery meter is four lights that are built into the mod. Of course, 1 light would represent 25% battery life, 2 lights would represent 50%, 3 lights would represent 75%, and 4 lights would represent a full charge. Pretty simple yet very effective.

Below the fire button, there is a screen but it is not a traditional screen that you would find on most of the mods today. The screen basically has fixed information on it and you pick your setting by lighting up the appropriate information on the screen. This mod will fire as low as 3.8 volts and as high as 4.8 volts. The minimum resistance on the Sparrow is 1 ohm. Between the 3.8 volt and 4.8 volt setting, there are 5 other settings that fall in the middle of that range. You can use the plus or minus button to scroll between those settings. The middle setting is set at 4.2 volts. This is an extremely simple screen and menu system to use and this is probably the most detail we will cover it in, in this review. I am not going to put this in the menu or board section of this review because it is so simple, it would just be a waste of time.

Below the screen, we do have the plus and minus buttons. As always, the plus button is on the top and the minus button is on the bottom. They are made out of the same exact material as the fire button and they have a very similar feel. On the left side of the plus and minus button, there is a charge port. On the left side of the fire button, there is some Teslacigs branding. On the right side of the plus and minus button, there is also some Sparrow branding. The bottom of the mod does have some Tesla branding and that is pretty much it as far as the description of the mod goes.

The Sparrow kit does have 1300 mAh built-in battery. It does take quite a while to charge it from dead to full. I can’t stress again how tiny this mod is. Just to give you some scale, it really is just slightly bigger than a convenience store lighter we all have bought when we actually smoked.

The Tank:

The tank that comes with the Sparrow Kit is a 20mm tank. It is extremely small and compact. It does have a 1.2 ml capacity and there is also adjustable bottom airflow. The top cap is removable and it is a top fill tank. There is a little bit of knurling on the top cap and it definitely makes it a little easier to take apart.

The drip tip included with the kit is a proprietary drip tip and it is definitely geared more towards the MTL vaper. There is drip tip opening on the top cap but it is not 510 compatible. The finish on the tank is done in a very nice chrome that really gives it an attractive look. I like the way they used black and chrome in the look of this tank. It really does set it off as far as looks go.

There is a sleeve-like chimney that you slide your coil into once it is mounted to the base of the tank. This is a screw in type of system with bottom airflow. There is some knurling on the base that will assist you in getting the base off. There are three air hole slots on the AFC ring of the tank. It does have a smooth action to it with stoppers on both ends. On the base of the tank, you have a mirror like finish and there is some Teslacigs branding. The threading on the tank is all very nice including the part that houses the 510 pin. The 510 pin does have an insulator ring going around it and it is gold plated.

As far as the airflow goes, with 1 air hole open, it is very much like a cigarette type of draw. Vapers that are transitioning over from cigarettes will absolutely love this setting. With 2 air holes open, it does get a little looser but it is definitely still on the tight side. With the tank wide open, you can definitely do a very restricted DL hit on it. Overall, the airflow is just smooth all around.

The Coils:

In your kit, you will receive two coils. They are rated from 10 to 15 watts and they have a resistance of 1.6 ohms. The coil included in this kit is specifically made for tootle puffers or beginners. It is a really decent flavor coil and I have had no problems with the way it vapes. It has really good flavor to it and for a little device, the cloudage is not bad at all. This is a tiny little coil but when you open the tank up all the way, it does provide a surprising amount of vapor for a coil that is ohming out at 1.6 ohms.

The Look, Feel, and General Aesthetics Of The Mod:

The Sparrow kit is pretty stealthy. No matter how big or small your hands are, you will be able to engulf this whole kit in one hand. For a small device, it does seem to have a nice weight to it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nowhere near heavy but it’s definitely heavier than I would have anticipated it to be when I first opened the box. It has that heaviness to it that denotes quality. It’s a well built little mod. I like the finish on it and I love the buttons. The buttons have a chrome mirror-like finish that really goes well against the black satin paint job. The branding on it is very subtle and it’s just a beautiful, little, stealthy set up. I actually really like the way the chrome buttons match the chrome tank. I like the way the black o’rings inside the tank break up that chrome look and they match beautifully with the paint job of the mod. It’s a good looking, stealthy beginner’s kit.

How Does It Vape?

Obviously, most vapers can tell by the size and demeanor of this kit that this is no cloud chucking beast. It’s a variable voltage mod that is ultra simple and suited for a beginner or tootle puffer. I try to keep in mind what a mod was designed for when I write about it in this section. For what this kit was designed for, it does a very nice job. You’re not going to be clouding any rooms up with it but remember, that’s not what it was made for. This was made for people that want something simple, that may be transitioning over from cigarettes. It’s made for a loose MTL vape or a very restricted DL vape. If that was Tesla’s goal, then they did a great job with this because it does all of that and then some.

While the coils that come with this kit really aren’t my style, they are flavorful. I get some nice flavor when I vape this kit and for what it is, the clouds are not that bad at all. I ran quite a few juices through this tank and while I wasn’t blown over with flavor, I have to admit that it did not taste bad at all. It was actually a pretty good flavored vape. It’s not my style of vape but I could see how somebody transitioning over would appreciate a kit like this. I could also see how somebody who regularly vapes at under 20 watts would definitely want something like this in their arsenal.

Conclusion:

This little starter kit is geared towards the MTL or restricted DL vaper. For that, this is definitely a worthwhile endeavor. It’s a very basic variable voltage kit that is simple to use and not at all hard to understand. If you are transitioning over from analogs, it will provide you with a satisfying vape to keep you off of the cigarettes. If you are a dedicated tootle puffer, you will definitely appreciate the simplicity and the vape quality of this kit. If you are one of those vapers that I described, this is one of the better more complete kits on the market today. It is a solidly built, variable voltage mod with a tank that is more than competent.
