First Impression Out Of The Box:

Interesting, kind of looks like Vandy Vape took an Icon deck and slapped it onto an RDTA. Looks like we have some bottom airflow and some beefy Phillips head deck screws. Of course, typical Vandy Vape, we have 3 Ultem drip tips. Very nice!

What’s In The Box:

  • 1 Perseus RDTA
  • 1 16mm Wide Drip Tip (Pre-Installed)
  • 1 17.5mm Wide Drip Tip
  • 1 14mm Wide Drip Tip
  • 1 510 Drip Tip Adapter
  • 1 PEEK Block – Single Coil Adapter
  • Different colored spare o’rings
  • Spare deck screws
  • Little blue Phillips head screwdriver

From Top To Bottom:

I love ultem drip tips and I love the fact that Vandy Vape includes a nice variety in most of their tanks and RDAs. The ones included are Goon style drip tips and they are extremely comfortable. If you’re more into the 510 drip tips, they provide an adapter for you so you can run all of your standard 510 drip tips as well. This RDTA really has no top cap. Vandy Vape decided to integrate the top cap into the barrel and they do not separate.

This top cap barrel combination does have a notch system that allows you to lock the barrel down onto the tank. I’ve never really been a fan of these types of locking systems but this one does work well. The base of the barrel has a huge o-ring that seals everything off quite nicely. The interior of the barrel has a conical design so you know this RDTA probably has some pretty good flavor. The exterior is where you have the bottom airflow with an adjustable AFC.

Like I said previously, the notch system can tend to be a pain because it really requires you to line everything up in order for you to lock the barrel down onto the RDTA. When you first get the tank this will be a little frustrating for you but eventually, you will get the hang of it. All you really have to do is line up the air hole with the open lock symbol on the side of the tank then you push down and turn clockwise. You will definitely feel the barrel lock down. After you do that, you can adjust the airflow and vape. Like I said, it is a little tricky at first but you get the hang of it pretty quickly.

The 510 pin screws into the base and the base is totally flat. In order to disassemble this tank, you do not need to remove the 510 pin. The 510 pin is adjustable and removable. Like all Vandy Vape products, the 510 pin does have a peek insulator around it to make this RDTA hybrid safe. The base of this RDTA does have some serial numbers and some branding.

The Deck:

Vandy Vape basically took their Icon deck and put it in RDTA form. If you read my review of the Vandy Vape Icon, you’ll know that that’s probably not a bad thing. This type of deck is a step down four post deck. It has some really nice Phillips head screws and the deck itself is wide open and a pleasure to build on. By wide open, I mean that there is really no sealing around the edges when the barrel is off. While it does make the deck extremely easy to build and wick, it does give me some concern when it comes to possible leaking. So far though, I have had no leaking issues. The fill port is basically at the ends of each side of the deck. The disadvantage of this is that you really need to use needle nose or dropper type bottle in order to fill this tank without creating a mess. You will not be able to use bullnose tip bottles because it will get extremely messy.

Of course, this is a bottom airflow RDTA with a gold plated deck. The internals of the airflow are shaped like a big L. When building this tank, you have to make sure you place your coil right above the air flow hole. The airflow will make a 90° turn and comes up right below your coil.

Building And Wicking:

If you are an Icon owner, you will know exactly how to build on this deck. It’s pretty easy and straightforward. You can use just two post holes if you want or all four, it really is up to the individual. The Perseus also has a single coil block that will allow the user to vape this RDTA in single coil mode. I’ve never been a big fan of that. I tend to run single coil builds in tanks and atomizers that were designed specifically for single coil use. That’s just me, some vapers may appreciate the option.

Building and wicking the Perseus is as simple as figuring out how many post holes you want to use, mount your coils, and wick it up. The deck being so wide open makes wicking extremely easy. I do make sure that I wet my cotton first so it makes it a little easier to mold my wick into place. I do cut my wicks so they hang just below the top of the platform right under the deck. On atomizers that do require long wicks, I prefer using Vapers Choice Cotton. It’s a very straight cotton that does well in this type of situation.

How Does It Vape?

Most of you that follow my reviews know that I’m not really a big fan of RDTA’s in general. It’s hard for me to see what all the hype is about. Everybody is always saying how they get flavor for days and huge clouds. I’ll be honest, I just don’t get it. While I will agree that most RDTA’s are cloud chuckers when it comes to flavor, I find a lot of them very lacking. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying there’s no flavor on the Perseus. I’m just saying that for me, there are other types of atomizers that I do get better flavor from. All that being said, the Perseus is one of the better RDTA’s on the market when it comes to flavor. It is also no slouch in the cloud department either. You will have no problem clouding up a room with the Vandy Vape Perseus.

Right now, I have dual Kanthal Clapton’s installed in my Perseus. I am ohming out at .16 ohms and I have the tank on my Vaporesso Revenger at 80 Watts. I’m getting really good flavor and some massive clouds. The Perseus can definitely chuck with the best of them and the flavor I get does edge out most RDTA’s on the market today. You can trust me on this one because I do own most of the popular RDTA’s. The wicking is just fine and the Perseus does keep up while chain vaping. Air flow is extremely smooth and I do not get any whistling. However, it is not quite as airy as most of the RDTA’s on the market today. I am quite positive that the slightly restricted airflow does contribute to the Perseus being a little better in the flavor Department than the rest of the tanks in this genre.

Conclusion:

Listen, if you are an RDTA fan and you like the way RDTA’s vape then definitely give the Vandy Vape Perseus a good look. Like most Vandy Vape products, it’s well-built and well-thought out. The flavor I get is better than most of the RDTA’s I have tried and the clouds are there for sure. So far, I have owned every product that Vandy Vape has put out and I have yet to be disappointed. Is this tank DeucesJack approved? Sure, if RDTA’s are your thing then you would have a hard time finding a better all-around performer in this subcategory.
