First Impression out of the Box

DeucesJack: What’s up everybody? DeucesJack at Today, I have the Vapefly Horus RTA. I got it on top of the squid double barrel in black. I think it looks sweet. Check it out. Top airflow, single coil RTA, comes in black, stainless steel, gold and gunmetal. It got a little bit of a heatsink going on on top there, like a Step Up design. Nice drip tip.

Let’s cut down low. Let’s check it out. I’m going to take it apart. We’re going to throw a build in it, we’re going to wick and juice it up. Then we’ll come back on top. We’ll talk about it, cons, pros, we’re out of here. See you down low.

What’s In The Box

  • 1*Vapefly Horus RTA
  • 1*Spare 4ml Glass Tank
  • 1*510 Adapter
  • 1*Screw Driver
  • 1*Cotton
  • 2*Coils
  • 1*Allen Key

Alright everyone, welcome to the downlow portion of this video. Today, we’re going to be going over the Vapefly Horus RTA. let’s check out the packaging real quick. Horus RTA branding over there, nothing there, some Vapefly branding there, nothing there.

On the back of the back of the box, we have some features listed right there. Single coil deck, 4ml capacity, takes 810 and 510 drip tips, top fill, top airflow, no leaking.

Let’s open it up and see exactly what we have there. Slide the cardboard sleeve off. Shake that box a little bit and there we go. Good looking RTA. here is your spare glass. I like that, nice touch. Vapefly, let’s take the RTA out for a second, put it to the side and let’s see what we have underneath the foam and cardboard insert.

First thing we have here, Vapefly manual with an exploded view, some of the stats there, some of the specs. Included in here, you get the RTA, 4ml glass tube, 510 adapter, screwdriver, cotton, two coils and allen key and o-rings. Nice job on that.

Let’s see what we have here. We have cotton and two NI80 coils. We’ll put that to the side for now. Here we have a hex key, a tri tool, a bunch of spare o-rings, 510 drip tip adapter and a bunch of spare deck screws.

Over here, this is not cotton. It’s some type of polishing cloth. Nice job on that. I like that little bit of extra they added in there.

From Top To Bottom

Let’s look at the RTA itself. First thing that jumps out of you is it’s a beautiful drip tip. Look at that. They did a nice job on that drip tip. Goon style drip tip. See the o-ring inside there. Top airflow over here. You have two airflow slots right there. Most of the time I run it with one open because it’s too airy for me with two. No stopper. It just keep spinning. I wish they would have put a stopper on there. On the bottom, we have some Horus branding with a serial number and ‘Designed by Vapefly’.

We also have a gold-plated 510 connection here, insulator ring around it, stainless steel threading over here. So far, this has sat flush on all of the mods that I’ve used it on. If you look at the base, you’ll see a little bit of knurling over here. Not too much but just enough to get a grip.

This is how you take it apart. Nice gold-plated GTA style deck. Really nice job on that. We have flat head screws over here. Two posts, one terminal per post. This is a single coil deck. I don’t know if you can see that. Can you see the raised lip there? There’s a little bit of a raised lip there. That kind of keeps your flat wire in there. I kind of like that. Good idea.

Vapefly Horus Review

It’s a GTA style deck because it’s kind of raised off the bottom of the deck. Here is your airflow. It comes in from the top and then through here. Here are your wicking ports. Everything is gold-plated. Let me show you the inside of the tank so you can understand where the airflow is coming from. The airflow comes through here and then it hits this part and comes to the bottom of your coil. So basically, it’s cutting off like a good fifth of the deck space in there. No conical shape in here. A little bit of Horus branding over here. Not bad.

In order to take the top cap off, you simple give it a twist. Here are your juice fill ports right here. Kidney bean, tic-tac type of shape. Right? Threading seems to be nice and smooth. Top cap has a big o-ring in there to keep the juice where it belongs in the tank. Not too crazy about this Step Up design here. It’s alright. I would have rather it’s something a little flatter. Threading is nice and smooth.

Let’s put a build in it and let me show you how to wick this thing up. We’re going to use the coil that they supplied. Here we go. This is the coil. We use a different type of cotton because I’m going to give this one away. But I’ll give it away with the build and wick in it.

First thing you want to do is open up those terminals just like that. Now you simply take your coil and slide it in from both sides. You want to make sure you have it right above that airflow. You want to hold your coil in there and screw it in there nicely just like so. No reason to crank it down. We can adjust it later. We can crank it down a little later, we just want to get it in there.

Now, you take your coiling rod and you make your adjustments. Maybe raise it a little bit on this side and now that looks just about right. Now what you want to do is you want t take your wire clipper, you want to get them flush up against the back here, put your finger on the wire so you don’t go flying everywhere because you don’t ever want to step on one of them. same thing here. Finger on the wire, cut nice and flush. You’ll see right there.

Now what we’re going to do is we’re going to put it on the Coil Master 521 Plus Tab and we’re going to pulse the coil and make sure we have no hot spots. So here we go. Shout out to Coil Master for their awesome 521 Plus Tab. let’s see what we’re ohming out at. We’re ohming out at 0.23. Let’s give it a light pulse. Make sure everything is nice. You can see I have a couple of hot spots, we’re going to stroke them a little bit. Get them out of there, maybe give it a pinch. There we go and now we’re good to go.

Now, it’s time to wick it. Today we’re going to be using Native Wicks, platinum blend. This is one of my favorite wicking materials. What I normally like to do is – when it comes like this – I normally just like to grab a nice piece, something like that. Give it a little pull and now you just give it a little roll in your fingers like so. Give it a little twist on one end. Make it nice and pointy and now you just simply feed your cotton through your coil. You see how I got that nice tension there? That’s exactly how you want it.

Now, what you want to do is you want to cut your cotton properly. What I mean by properly is you want to hang in below this part of the deck right there. I like to cut my cotton right around her, right there. Shout out to the vape Shears, awesome scissors. If you haven’t seen them yet, check them out. Do the same thing on the other side, right around there.

Vapefly Horus Review

Now, I’m not going to use juice on this one because I’m giving this one away. But at this point in time, normally, I would juice these wicks up a little bit and make them easier to mold into this part of the deck. But since I’m going to be giving this away, I want you to put your own juice in it. So really, when you get this, all you have to do is take the base out, juice it up a little bit and then fill up the tank.

That’s it. She’s all tucked in and wicked. Let’s cut back on top, let’s talk about it a little bit, we’ll go over cons, pros and then we’re out of here. Don’t forget, one lucky winner is going to win this.

Alright everyone, we’re back on top with the Vapefly Horus single coil, top airflow RTA. check it out on the Squid Industries double barrel. Looks really sweet. Looks like it belongs there.

Let’s not waste a lot of time on this one. Let’s get into the official cons and pros because we spend a lot of time down low already, building it.

First con is going to be, no stopper on the AFC ring on the top airflow. Come on, Vapefly. You know better than that. You should have put a stopper on there even though it’s got a nice tension to it. I would have like to have seen a stopper.

Next con is going to be that stepped up heatsink, I just don’t like the way that looks, man. I don’t like platforms on top of my RTAs. I think they just went a little overboard putting 3 heatsinks on top. Maybe one or two would have been better. One would have been better, none would have been best. I like flat top cap.

Next con is going to be, for a single coil RTA, this thing is extremely airy. It’s actually too airy. I find myself running it with the AFC, halfway open. I find I get the best flavor in a nice restrictive lung hit that way. Direct lung hit.

Let’s move on the pros. There’s quite a few of them.

First pro is going to be, build quality. Vapefly, you guys have been knocking it out of the park lately. You have quietly become a very high-quality vape manufacturer when it comes to atomizers. You guys have just been doing a great job with it. I’ve gotten a lot of great Vapefly products. It’s only a matter of time before you guys become more mainstream. Good job on that.

Second pro is going to be, two drip tips and a 510 drip tip adapter. We’ve got a company out there that’s listening to the reviewers. I like that. Next pro is going to be, it’s got good flavor for a top airflow RTA. nice job on that. I normally don’t like top airflow RTAs. this one has one of the better flavor RTAs with top airflow. Good job on that, Vapefly.

4 ml capacity, I like that on a single coiler. Nice job on that. It’s easy to build, it’s easy to wick. They’ll get a pro for that.

The other thing I’ll give it a pro for is it truly is a no-leak design. For those of you that might not have your wicking game down, this is very forgiving and you’ll be able to wick this and not get any leaks at all because it’s top airflow. So we’ll give them a pro for that.

And that’s it. That’s all I got for you today on the Vapefly Horus RTA and I hope you didn’t go anywhere because as I said in the beginning of the video, we have a giveaway on this one. Yeah, that’s right. Vapefly sent me an extra one. I got another black one for some lucky subscriber.
